Ya know how yesterday was the worst 10 miles ever? Yeah, clearly I'm still having issues, because this 10k sucked big fat donkey balls. (Maybe it should be turkey balls this close to Thanksgiving, but I digress.)

This morning was the Lincolnwood Turkey Trot. I met Danielle and Dan. I was truckin' with Danielle at about I 10:00 pace. Then my lungs got tight. I was running with Dan for a few blocks at an 11:00 when my lungs began to hate me. And my hate me, I mean close. Dan could hear my wheezing. I went to the side walk and stopped. It was the first time I seriously considered a DNF. I decided that I would go to the 5k turnaround and see how I felt. At that point I talked myself into finishing, but I felt like I was trying to breathe through a coffee stirrer.

It pretty much sucked ass. Danielle jumped in with me at the end, she even said I didn't sound good, and Dan was pretty worried. Danielle told Dan that she was certain I'd finish, even if I had to crawl... clearly my stubbornness is well known. My Garmin said I had a 1:16:21 finish.I hope my lungs clear up before the 1/2 Marathon in a few weeks.

Run for the Zoo!

This was my very first 10k last year...Ironic that I ran like crap. Ok, so I was still faster than the first time I ran it...1:13:52. I was under 12:00 splits, so I shouldn't be upset, but I was still hoping for a PR.

All well, you can't have a PR every race...maybe next time.

It was a cold day for a run--actually it wasn't so bad once the run got started. I warmed up as I ran the race. Today was the Lincolnwood Turkey Trot. I ran in to Molly at the race, she was running the 5K with her mom. It's always great to run into a friendly face!

I had my new Mizuno running gloves which I was certain wasn't going to work. They're a new technology, called Breath Thermo. This fabric is supposed to warm up when it gets wet from training sweat. I was skeptical of the process, but after 3 miles I had to take them off they were so warm. I tucked them into my sweatshirt, and could even feel the warmth through the under shirt. I'd recommend them and I think I'm going to invest in a few more pieces for my winter training runs. With that kind of heat and the temps in Chicago, this girl is sold on the fact that it would be completely worth it!

To make the day even better, I had a 10K PR!! 1:08:57 which is an 11:06 mile split. Taking 2:35 off of the previous 10K PR of a few weeks ago! To add to my personal victory, this race had finisher medals!! Who knew? I've never run this short of a race that had medals! Yeah, hardware!

I love that I'm becoming a stronger more consistent runner. These PR's are showing me that these training runs do pay off. Sure I'm still slow, but I'm still excited when I've done better than I ever have before. Can't wait for the 8K on Thursday. I know that I'll have another PR...the last 8K I did was Crazylegs waaay back in the spring. My new goal for the 8K: under an hour. BRING IT ON!! (Can you tell I have the runner's high?)

Today was the Trick or Treat Trot through Lincoln Park. I was totally dreading it due to the costume party I went to the night before, but unlike last week, I had much less to drink. Irreguradless, waking up did not make me happy…so after hitting snooze a few too may times I had to rush around to get out the door. I did get rock star parking, but was concerned because I didn’t see too many people who wore a costume to run. Fortunately, more people dressed for the holiday showed up.

I had an 11:31 split for each mile and I felt so good through the run! It was a beautiful day and I blew my old pr out of the water by 5 minutes!! I was so pumped to do it!! I can NOT believe that I did it dressed as a pirate wearing an eye patch! I think that makes it a little more awesome! My time was 1:11:32—game on!!

Today was the Fleet Feet Women's Festival. I was a bit rushed getting to the starting line...parking sucked! I think I had a mile run before the race--at least I was warmed up! I did the 10K. It was my first since the awful showing at the Run for the Zoo. I did much better, no wall, no elevation, no hills :)...it was great!

I finished 1:17:07 with a 12:25 split. Sure better than the last time! My lungs did feel really tight this morning. I think it was due to the humidity. Aside from that I really felt like I had a good stride going after mile 4.

I even ran in to Krista from Augie! It was a super speedy reunion! She also ran the 10K. We caught up on the little things and I headed home. Such a lovely morning!

I can't believe that the Chicago Distance Classic is exactly two weeks away. Is it to early to start panicing?

Today was my first 10k!! I was super slow, but I finished. I felt pretty good for the first half. I even ran the first mile in just under 11 minutes. No I didn't maintain that pace, but it was a great start! The problem was that I was dragging though the end. I completely hit a wall somewhere between mile 4 and 5. It just felt as if my body was saying "Ok, you're done running. That's enough, now". My time was about 1:21:33 with a 13:10 split. I didn't come in last for either the age group or the entire race (close, but still not dead last!) I even got an awesome Green Camo Print Nike Dry Fit shirt. I'd even do this race again!
