I don't know why I'm so lazy. I never made it to the gym or the Lakefront for a swim. But today was Lynn's first 5k! Yeah!! I'm so proud, she only walked the water stops. It was the Elvis is Alive 5k Fun Run, and we finished in 39:00 clock time. Go Lynn!

CFD-Run for the Kids 5k
This really is one of my favorite races...they made it just a little better by adding sandwiches! They already had Chipotle's chips and guac, but now they had Pocket's calzones!! (even vegetarian ones--woo!) Danielle and I ran this race to celebrate her birthday (Happy Birthday, Danielle!)
I managed to keep up with her for the first mile. However, the path was crowded and people don't know how to place themselves at the start of a race (annoying!!). I was weaving in and out of people. Then just after mile 1 we hit the CFD cadets running (and singing) in formation. I thought of Amy and said, I need to beat these guys and managed to pull a head of them. I felt pretty good through the first half and even completely passed the cadets before the turn around. I wish that I had it in me to push more in the second and third miles because while I PRed, I didn't make my goal of under 30 minutes. I am proud of my PR with a 30:44 and a 9:54 av. pace...that under 30 minute mark is just 45 seconds away!!
Good times!

Girls on the Run 5k
Just a little race...untimed and I got to run with Xitali. I think we were about 45:00, but it doesn't matter because I'm so proud to get to run with one of my students in her very first 5k!

Today was the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis in Bettendorf, IA. I was running it with Becca. We were a little bummed that the walkers were in an athletic club and I was running outside. I still did pretty well--33 something. I couldn't hear them calling out the times and I can't find the results anywhere. I had forgotten how hilly the Quad-Cities were...I really wish hills weren't so hard on my lungs.
I'm glad I got the run in, but I feel as if I'm loosing running steam. I haven't run near as much as I used to. I keep telling myself that it's ok because I'm between training cycles and that I really do need to rest a little. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it, I mean marathon training does start again in two weeks.
Maybe signing up for a couple of marathons and triathlons in 2009 will help motivate me and keep me from being a slacker...

Mad Dash to Madison 5K--2008 Blackhawks Training Camp
Fun race. I really took it easy--no need to burn out my legs for tomorrow. I finished in about 37:00 (I'll update when I see the official time). I got a Blackhawks tech shirt and 2 tickets to Tuesday's game. I think I'd do this one again...especially if I got faster--the winners got custom jerseys!

DISNEYLAND!!
Today was the Disneyland 5k in Anaheim, CA. It wasn't quite as good as the Family 5k in Orlando...(Slightly annoying to be stuck with a 2XL, but that means Mom gets a cute race shirt!).
It was a nice easy run, not chipped. My Garmin time was 33:55...and I even got a cute medal!!

CFD Run for the Kids! There was no fence jumping today...I knew just where to go! Besides, I parked at Laura's house and walked over to Soldier Field. :)
I met up with Melissa from my pace group. This was her very first race ever! I'm so proud of her. I know I pushed her pace through the whole race, I was just hoping it wasn't too much. I wanted a PR, but it's better to run with someone on their first race. I can always find another 5k. Besides, there's never a guarantee I'd hit it--especially with today's oppressive heat and humidity.
I also bumped in to Jen from Winter training. She's doing the Harbor Lights Tri this weekend. She looked great, and I bet she'll do awesome. Jen's doing Pleasant Prairie, and if Elaine and I decide to do it it will be fun to add to our little group! Jen and I also made arrangements to meet to swim together at Ohio Street Beach. It's really good for me because I need more open water experience!
Anywho, Melissa and I ran the race in 35:23 which is an 11:24--Making me sooooo proud of Melissa! What a great start! (Much better than my first 5k!). Unfortunately, I dropped my inhailer into the porta-potty (something that would only happen to me)...I decided to just let it go. I'm concidering it a sacrifce to the race gods. We hung out after the race and enjoyed the DJ, Beer (the reason to do the race--Really, I'm drinking for da kids!) and atmosphere. I even saw hot stair climber guy. He and Melissa had a lot to talk about--she's a nurse in the PICU and he's a firefighter...I did not enjoy the gore of their stories (ICKY!). He walked us back to Laura's and I gave him a ride back to his truck. Oopsie--he left his race packet in my car. Looks like I have an excuse to talk with him. After all, he needs that back! :)

Wondergirl 5k!
It was a good race...I didn't really time myself. I was running from the first girl to the last girl to check on them. I think that all the girls and buddies had fun! There was a small glitch with one of the girls over sleeping, but aside from that (and the heat and humidity) it was a fun day!

Ravenswood 5k--
I KICKED IT'S ASS!! PR!!! WOO-HOO! I rocked it today! I didn't even feel like I went balls out...so awesome! I felt really good while running! I had a total time of 31:15 for a 10:04 minute mile.
I saw some neighbors working the first aid tent...that was cool. I also had breakfast with Molly and her mom (@ Paulina's again!). It was a great day!!

First 5K of the year and the slowest time ever!! Ok, so it wasn't a chipped race and I walked with mom's CCI puppy, still a good time! It probably took a good 45 minutes for the 5k, if not more. But it was good publicity for CCI. They even gave the puppy a finnisher's medal!! Yeah, Disney!

Rudolph Ramble!! Due to shitty driving conditions (the roads were solid ice) I was getting out of my car as the gun sounded. I ran over to the start and I was the very last person to start. I was being a goof about it, throwing my arms up yelling "Woo-Hoo! I'm late!! Last to start!!"
If I had been on time I would have heard the announcements stating that the race had been changed. This was supposed to be an 8K, but due to hazzardous conditions, it was shortened to a 5K with manditory walk points. It was crazy slippey; I feel twice. I crossed the finish at 41: something--(Chip time 37:59--12:15 ppm) worst 5K time EVER!!

Ran a 5k this morning, the Frank Lloyd Wright races in Oak Park. I ran like crap…but it’s my own damn fault. Why did I think that going out the bars until 4 am was a good idea? (And because you want to know, hell yeah I had fun!!) My time was about 38 minutes. Blah.
I loved the course. I didn’t know where a lot of the Wright houses were and the course ran right past them. Well, I walked the second mile for the aforementioned reason, but I’m sure I could use the excuse that I was looking at the architecture!
I also ran in to some people I knew…Bill from grad school (who did run well) and Chris (who had a late night too—but due to work—did not run well either). It’s so nice to not only see your old friends, but also recognize people race to race!

This morning I headed to Concordia for the Makin' Tracks 5k. MUCH cooler than last weekend, and I ran much better. In fact my first mile split was 10:20! I slowed down after that, however it was a pr pace. I completed the race in just over 35 minutes.
Aside from the time and the first mile spilt, I also loved that I actually passed a bus! There was a bus and a car going idle speed down the race course on one street. I ran passed them! It definitely was a moral victory. I think the people in the bus must have felt that they were in Office Space.
I'm really diggin' the smaller road races because I seem to run much better. For such a small race (there were about 350 participants) I didn't feel that I was any more behind than normal, and the goody bag (complete with a long sleeved tech shirt) was pretty good!

This morning was the Fall in to Fitness 5k. The bounus? It started at Portage Park. It was so nice to not have to drive to the race. I loved the race route running past my house! :)
It was a beautiful morining for a run! I finished in 37:13, with an 11:59 split. Not bad, but not good either. I need to learn to run faster, it seems my peek was in about July. I don't know what I did differently--I'm hoping it's only due to my recent weight gain, rather than me sucking.
I also sent in my form for a CARA participation award! I'm so proud that I qualify, who knew in my first year running?! I didn't have the 107k in CARA races (only CARA races count), but I did have a 1/2 Marathon (Chicago Distance Classic), a 10 miler (Downers Grove 5 & 10 Miler), 10k (Run for the Zoo), and 5k (Chicago Firefighter's Run for the Kids). I know I ran more than just CARA races, but it's still nice to know I did it!

Today was the Firefighter's Run for the Kids 5K (I'm still not sure which kids, but as Damita may remember "It's for da kidz!). On the walk there, I had a conversation with another runner named Chris. I wasn't sure where the ran began, but since he had run it for the last 5 or 6 years, I followed him to the start point. He completely led me astray! It was only a matter of turning left where we should have turned right, so it's not as if we ended up another zip code or anything. We did get there with pleanty of time to streach, but taking the road less traveled involved climbing over the 7 foot iron fence surrounding Soldier Field.
After turning the 5K into a steeple chase, it was a fairly nice run. The first half was into the wind, but not horrible. I ran a perfect 35:00. Not a PR, but I don't think I could get an even 35 minutes again if I tried! There was beer and guac at the finish line (I think all runs should finish with beer and guacamole!), so I hung out until I got too chilly.
Good race! Time to pack for Utah...

Today was the Niketown Bastille Day run. I thought I was going to have company for it, but it didn't work out. The race shirt was awesome--a red Nike Dry-Fit. It's almost as cool as the Run for the Zoo shirt.
I was a bit worried about this race...first I haven't trained well, and I still have blisters. Secondly, I forgot my iPod and inhailer, and had to go back for them and felt rushed getting down there. Finally, at the start I bumped in to one of the Best Men from Kim's Wedding. It was nice to see him and all, we had the small talk chit-chat, but then he said "I didn't see you at A's BBQ." That's because I wasn't invited. It was not only hard to say that, but I know it's been a year since I've seen or spoken with Kim. It's so hard because I wish I knew what I did that was so awful for her not to speak to me. Even if it was un-fixable, I just want her to know that I would never do anything to hurt her or her family. But I can't appologize for something I didn't know that I did. I guess on the off chance she reads this, I hope that she calls. I do miss her. Anywho, the point being, that shook me up.
Suprisingly, I really did have an AWESOME race!! I blew my old PR out of the water by almost 6 minutes! I guess with everthing I just took off and found my zone. I finished in 31:55, that's a 10:18 split! I was so excited with my time. I just hope that with the rest of my races I can keep up that pace.

The Jim Gibbon's Run
This race really seemed to kick start me back in to training for the 1/2 marathon. I went to the start line feeling good and ready to run! I hit the first mile marker at 11:20...and I felt AWESOME. Sure, compared to the elete, that blows, but I can see and feel the improvement running the 5K distance. The second mile was about 24:00 and when I got to the finish I was so crushed when I saw the time was registered 43:00!! How is it possible?!?! Sure, I had to walk for a little bit, but seriously? Almost 20 mintues for a mile? What the hell?!?! I could have walked it backwards faster. Any who...I got my free beer and listened to the Polkaholics, and got an autograph on my bib from a 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist.
Now, that the race results have been posted I'm a little sad to see that my results are listed under the name of Rachel Sierminski. I know this to be the case because she has two entrys and I have none, and one of the entrys is under my bib nimber. Not that it's her fault in anyway, shape or form...it just sucks, because I have a PR!! Yeah! The clock must have been running from the mens time, because my time was 37:10!! That's an 11:58 mile! I finially broke 12 minutes!
This has been a total confidace boost because I have a 10 mile race on Saturday. I decided to use it as a training run for the halfie...I've been paranoid all week that they were going to close the course on me for being slow! Now, I'm feeling better about doing it (but still a little scared they'll be picking up cones behind me :)) I'm hoping for under 2.5 hours...

7 Bridges Early Start 5K
This was a cute little suburban race. I didn't like the fact that it wasn't chipped. It's not motivating. The time was super slow (41:48). I wasn't really motivated. No more running with Jay. This one did have a good goody bag, but not as good as CPD!

Run To Remember
Today was the Run to Remember, sponsored by the Chicago Police Department. This defiately had the best goody bag and post race party around! I'll be back next year! There was even a beer stop instead of a water stop!
My time was better than the last 5K--38:31. Baby steps!

Ran my first 5K ever!
I'm such a slow slug... 39:14. I didn't come in last...oh yeah 344 out of 397. How Barb acutally placed behind me witht he same time I'll never know. I guess that's just home city advantage!!
But it was a beautiful day--and next time, I'll do better!
