Welcome to Chicago, where it will snow on one of the last days of March. It won't be just a dusting, oh-no, it will be 3 inches of slush with 30 mph winds. And in that mess, will be an 8k; the supposed marking of the summer running season in Chicago.
Did I really want to roll out of my nice warm bed for that? Not really, but I paid my $40 bucks and wanted my free beer (and lets face it, I needed the training run). It's a good thing I did, because I ROCKED IT!!
Yeah, my feet were pretty numb (and cold and wet), and my legs felt like lead from my 19 mile training run yesterday. But I had a monster 3.5 minute PR of 51:35 (oh, why did I walk through the two water stops!!!) which is a 10:23 av. pace.
Clearly, my winter marathon training has paid off. Boo-YA!

Ohmigawd...
I don't think I've ever been this sore or this tired.
Memo to me:
DO NOT RUN 15 MILES BEFORE ANY SORT OF RACE AND EXPECT TO FEEL GOOD AFTER IT! EVEN IF THERE IS FREE BEER!!
Thanks! Love, your Legs, Feet and Ass.
That being said I didn't do too bad at the Shamrock Shuffle. One problem was that I forgot to attach my chip to my shoe. I realized when I was walking down Michigan Ave. "SHIT!" was the first thing out of my mouth. Many turned around, but I stated what was the problem and they understood. There was no way to get it in time. I tried to look at the bright side, at least I still had my beer tickets.
I didn't notice the time at the start of the race but I imagine I can subtract 25 to 30 minutes from the finish clock of 1:23:0-something. So I'm figuring it took 50 and 60 minutes. That's not a huge PR time or anything, but it's respectable.
It was misty rainy and cold so I chug-a-lugged my beers and headed home. I missed Vicki, which I'm bummed about, but by the time I got her message I was already on the way home. I'm still proud of her for finishing.

Gobble, Gobble!
On a cold and snowy Thanksgiving morning I rolled out of bed for my first 8K since Crazylegs in the spring. Thanks to my new Mizuno running pants (Breath Thermo ROCKS!!) I wasn't cold while running. I even had a new PR!! (I'm sure not having to wait for a porta potty during the race might have also helped). It was a great race, I loved the fact that there were runners with me the entire time. I know I'm slow, but it's nice to be part of a pack once in a while, even if you're in the back of that pack.
For the Lincoln Park Turkey Trot 8K, official time 55:53 with 11:15 splits.
Gobble, Gobble.

Crazy Legs!
Today was the 8K--1:03:54!!
It totally would have been under an hour if I didn't have to wait for the guy in the port-a-potty. That seriously tacked on 5 minutes. I had to do some walkin' but I ran the entire first mile--hills, athsma, and all.
This is the farthest distance I've ever run!
