I'm sure that my body is telling me to slow down, but I'm too stubborn to listen. I really wanted to get a 7 mile run in, but I knew I wouldn't make it. I decided to go for the 4 and if I felt like it add a run around the park for the additional mile. I wasn't feelin' it, and I ran it anyway. That last mile was lame! I probably walked half of it. Grrr. I really should trust my gut and listen to my body. All well, I got this weeks 5 mile run out of the way.

Today--5 miles in a little over an hour.

Today I worked out with Hector--Yeah!! It's been a few weeks and I've missed him!

I did a half mile warm up--65 calories and streached.

Then it was mostly arms and some core work. I shouldn't leave him alone for an extended period of time, because he comes up with some new way to make me sore! I'm not complaining--it's good for me! He also streached my legs because I was sore and tight from the 10 miler yesterday.

UPDATE--
I know I posted that the race was 2:05 ish for 10 miles... Well, I checked the race results and the results were actually 1:59:06.2---That's an 11:55/mile pace!! I knew I rocked that course!! WOO-HOO!!

Today was the Downers Grove 10 miler—and I rocked!!

Of course I was slower than most, but I didn’t get lapped until Mile 4…not bad! I finished the race in 2:05: ish (will update when times are posted). That’s a 12:30 mile pace. I was just happy to finish! But when I saw the finish clock, I was so happy with my time! This is the farthest distance I’ve ever run!

It was a course with some rolling hills. Some of them I needed to walk up (along with the water stops), but for the most part, I ran the majority of the race.

This race really makes me feel better about the half marathon. I just need to keep up with my training and I’m feeling pretty confidant I won’t embarrass myself!

And now, I’m so ready for next year’s Soldier Field 10 Mile! I want to do it because it finishes on the 50 yard line of my beloved Bears Stadium…I guarantee you, after I cross that finish line I’ll be making grass angels on the field! :)

Thanks, Barb for the countless pep-talks and awesome Running Mix!! I couldn’t have done it with out you! And thanks to Mom and Jack for waiting at the finish line to cheer me on…it got a little lonely out there!!

Following this traning plan, I needed a cross training day...so I did Yoga for an hour--Strength and Balence at the intermediate level. I've got a touch of soreness going on...at least I know I did something! Today's a day off...Sunday's the big day--10 miles.

The Jim Gibbon's Run

This race really seemed to kick start me back in to training for the 1/2 marathon. I went to the start line feeling good and ready to run! I hit the first mile marker at 11:20...and I felt AWESOME. Sure, compared to the elete, that blows, but I can see and feel the improvement running the 5K distance. The second mile was about 24:00 and when I got to the finish I was so crushed when I saw the time was registered 43:00!! How is it possible?!?! Sure, I had to walk for a little bit, but seriously? Almost 20 mintues for a mile? What the hell?!?! I could have walked it backwards faster. Any who...I got my free beer and listened to the Polkaholics, and got an autograph on my bib from a 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist.

Now, that the race results have been posted I'm a little sad to see that my results are listed under the name of Rachel Sierminski. I know this to be the case because she has two entrys and I have none, and one of the entrys is under my bib nimber. Not that it's her fault in anyway, shape or form...it just sucks, because I have a PR!! Yeah! The clock must have been running from the mens time, because my time was 37:10!! That's an 11:58 mile! I finially broke 12 minutes!

This has been a total confidace boost because I have a 10 mile race on Saturday. I decided to use it as a training run for the halfie...I've been paranoid all week that they were going to close the course on me for being slow! Now, I'm feeling better about doing it (but still a little scared they'll be picking up cones behind me :)) I'm hoping for under 2.5 hours...

Today I ran pretty much the same route, just a few more twists and turns. When I mapped it out, it was a little farther than yesterday--5.13 miles. It wasn't much of a run, I felt like I walked half of it, but I did the distance. I'm more worried about Saturday now, hopefully a rest between Thrusday's 5K and the 10 miler will help.

Back to training! I ran 5.02 miles today. I forgot to look at the clock when I left, but I got home at 4:55! I seem to have this 4.5 mile wall. I don't know what it is! I did crazy legs and was fine with that...I don't know if it's a hydration/nutrition issue or what.

This week I have two races, Thursday's 5K and today I registered for a 10 mile run. It fits into the training plan. I'm just worried about the wall. I guess I have to keep telling myself, penguins always finish!

June 17, 2007

I've had this cough forever! I haven't worked out in 2 weeks, so I decided to head out for a run to try to clear it out. I ran 2.3 miles. I was super itchy afterwards and still coughing like a smoker.

Yesterday, I signed up for the Jim Gibbons run on Thursday. I know I'll be ok for that, it's the Distance Classic I'm worried about. I need to find more races to use as training runs to keep myself motivated!

Sunday

June 10, 2007

Ugh, I've had this nasty cold. I haven't been to the gym all week, and volleyball was cancelled on Thursday due to the gym being used for something else. I knew I wouldn't be able to run, so I walked to the Family Fruit Market on Cicero. It was just under 2.5 miles. I seriously fell asleep at 7 pm. I really need to shake this cold!

Soreness has definately set in...Hector definately worked my chest yesterday. I didn't know those muscles could hurt like that!

I went and hit an easy day on the Precor. I ran 5.25 miles in an hour (plus the machines 5 minute cool down) with the resistance set at 10 and burning 650 calories.

I found a training plan for the 1/2 marathon. I'm not sure if I like it...but I'll keep up with it until I find something I like better! I also found out that Sarah registered for the same race!! I think that this time, she's going to be waiting for me at the finish line!

Monday

June 4, 2007

Today I warmed up on the Precor. One mile 11:20 and 160 calories.

Hector kicked my ass today. Just when I thought he couldn't come up with more evil things to make me do; he busts out not only the leg weights but also having me hold my legs a few inches off the ground while I did a chest press. It was crazy hard!! He gave me alot of core work today and a combo of legs and arms. I'm getting better balence on the ball, and my side planks are awesome!!

On another note, I did something else stupid...I registered for the Chicago Distance Classic. The prize? A "big honkin' penguin medle" (their discription, not mine). Yeah, it's a half marathon. 13.2 miles is more than double what I did yesterday. What the hell was I thinking?!?! See? No reason to panic for Disney, I have something else to worry about!

Training plans...need to find a training plan....

Sunday

June 3, 2007

Today was my first 10k!! I was super slow, but I finished. I felt pretty good for the first half. I even ran the first mile in just under 11 minutes. No I didn't maintain that pace, but it was a great start! The problem was that I was dragging though the end. I completely hit a wall somewhere between mile 4 and 5. It just felt as if my body was saying "Ok, you're done running. That's enough, now". My time was about 1:21:33 with a 13:10 split. I didn't come in last for either the age group or the entire race (close, but still not dead last!) I even got an awesome Green Camo Print Nike Dry Fit shirt. I'd even do this race again!

Saturday

June 2, 2007

This morning I went for a short little run. I ran around the park, up to Austin, down Berteau and around Luther North. It was about 2 miles.

It's a little humid today, but it was nice to get out and run. I didn't do anything crazy, I've got that 10K tomorrow. Although as I was running up Austin, there was a dead cat on the side walk... It was very sad. He looked like he was sleeping on his back (Seamus does that sometimes). I guess, it's nicer to think of that...it's just more peaceful that way.

On another note, I found a great website where you can map out your routes by miles or kilometers. It's definately fun to play with and I can find milage for my runs. Now I don't have to be on the precor or treadmill to know how far I've gone!
