December 31, 2007

I realize today that I have run in three different states in the last week. Now, I'm in Mile High City (aka Denver, CO.) Last run of the year! I made sure that even though I'm on vacation I'm still getting my runs in. I did the run on the elliptical in the hotel fitness center. I feel like I did it really well! I ran 5 miles in 53:08 which is at a 10:38 mile pace. GO ME!

Friday

December 28, 2007

At the gym this morning I did a 9:30 mile warm up and then did arms with Hector. I must have worked hard because I was dead after an hour with him. I really had to push myself to finish my run. I did two more slow miles on the treadmill (hardly running) and did the final mile on the elliptical.

Thursday

December 27, 2007

Home again!

I ran a fast mile warm up--8:46 minute mile! I've never done that before! I don't think I could maintain that pace, but I'm sure that it was good for me to do at least one!! Now if only I could work my way up to an entire 5k at that pace, how awesome would that be?!?

After the mile, I did a full body work out with Hector for an hour. I finished with 4 easy, slow miles on the elliptical (50 minutes--told you it was slow!). I did a total of 5 miles today. I probably should have pushed the training run more. Tomorrow is another day, I'll try harder on that run. That will be on the treadmill instead of the elliptical for sure.

Two weeks from right now, I'll be in Florida...the night before the 5k and two nights before the 1/2 Marathon. I'm getting excited!!

Wednesday

December 26, 2007

I was up early, it was a beautiful sunrise over the ocean--and it was in the 60's while I was running. Yeah, Florida winters!!

I ran 5 miles. From my folks place, South on the island and across the Blue Heron Bridge (I walked the up sides in both directions) to US1 and back. I think it took an hour, or so--I hate when I forget to look at the clock!! It was a much better run than yesterday!

Tuesday

December 25, 2007

Ah, sunny Florida...

Went for a 6 mile run today. It was like running in early summer! I ran from my folks place up to McArthur State Park. I started to walk as I got to the park, just because the bridges were so pretty over the water. On the way back I walked a little more due to some major chaffage. I probably walked at most a mile of the total.

Tell me again why forgetting to pack Body Glide was a good idea?

Sunday

December 23, 2007

I headed to the gym today to ensure that I actually got in the long run. I'm so paranoid about the 1/2...I've hardly done any running this month. Barb has assured me that she will push me to at least 12 minute splits. Just gotta be better than the last one!!

I did 12 miles on the elliptical. Thank God the Bears game was on, because watching the Bears wallup on Green Bay was entertainment enough to keep me occupied. I was on that machine for 3 quarters!!

GO BEARS!!

Friday

December 21, 2007

I tried to run on the treadmill today, but my hips hurt too bad and I had to stop. I did my four miles on the elliptical. Then I did an hour of core and legs with Hector. It was a lot of trying to work out the kinks in my right hip. I really wish I knew what I did to it and how to fix it...

Wednesday

December 19, 2007

Worked out with Hector for an hour...I was dragging still from the combo of the sinus infection and stomach flu. I'm glad I worked out, but I'm still tired and dragging. I felt like I was only at 80%, but that 80% seemed to take a LOT of effort. I did a 10 minute mile warm up on the treadmill and then 2 miles after Hector on the elliptical (about 400 calories).

I really need to get back on schedule for training runs. I'm a little panicky today due to my lack of running this month. The 1/2 marathon isn't going to run itself. I'm seriously considering ditching my co-workers after work on Friday to work out for 2 hours. Fear (of not doing well or doing worse than the one in August) is a HUGE motivator.

Tuesday

December 11, 2007

5 miles on the elliptical in 56 minutes. 665 calories.

Monday

December 10, 2007

Spent an hour with Hector. 1/2 mile warm up in 4:30 on the treadmill and then an excellent core work out (complete with streaching!)

Sunday

December 9, 2007

Rudolph Ramble!! Due to shitty driving conditions (the roads were solid ice) I was getting out of my car as the gun sounded. I ran over to the start and I was the very last person to start. I was being a goof about it, throwing my arms up yelling "Woo-Hoo! I'm late!! Last to start!!"

If I had been on time I would have heard the announcements stating that the race had been changed. This was supposed to be an 8K, but due to hazzardous conditions, it was shortened to a 5K with manditory walk points. It was crazy slippey; I feel twice. I crossed the finish at 41: something--(Chip time 37:59--12:15 ppm) worst 5K time EVER!!

Wednesday

December 5, 2007

This was the worst day I've had in a long time. Seriously, who did I fuck over to have karma send me this bad of a day? I know it wasn't all bad, but still there was some major suckage going on.

I even got to the gym late for my appointment with Hector. He knew something was up (let's face it, I'm never late to the gym). I spilled to him on a 5 minute warm up on the treadmill (1/2 mile). And then did more legs and core work. It's nice to know that there's someone there to kick my ass and make me work hard to make the day better.

Hector not only cheered me up, but also stretched me out. He's the biggest sweetie I know!

(If you're reading this, Hector--Love ya! You're the best!!)

Monday

December 3, 2007

Beautiful work out!! A one mile (9:54 min) warm up and then legs and core with Hector--it was practically the perfect work out. I didn't want to run after, I just wanted to enjoy my little glow.

Ahhh, if only all workouts could be this good.

Friday

November 30, 2007

I made it to the gym late today, and by late I mean 9:30 pm. I got through 4 miles in 42:30 minutes, and about 550 calories. I was really pushing, and as a result, the cheeseburger I had for dinner wasn't sitting well. Live and learn, at least I got in the run.

Thursday

November 29, 2007

Five miles on the elliptical.

(Short, sweet and to the point...I know)

Wednesday

November 28, 2007

Why won't this soreness go away? I was sorta productive at the gym today:
  • Blasted out 3 miles on the treadmill (430 calories)
  • Hector stretched me for a good half hour...it's definitely the only reason I could be productive. If I was romantically interested in him, I'd totally ask him to marry me. (Is it unethical to want to marry someone so that they can stretch you out all the time? I suppose there's worse reasons people have gotten married).
  • Up next, a half hour of core work.
  • Finally 4 more slow miles...but on the elliptical (500 calories). I wasn't about to mess up my oh-so-excellent stretching!

That gives me a total of 7 miles and 930 calories, and a hopefully a little less soreness. We'll see tomorrow.

Monday

November 26, 2007

So sore...so tired....so what if I was "over served" at the Bears game yesterday!! They one in overtime 37-34 and it was completely worth it. My work out was arms, core and a little legs. No running due to residual soreness. Back to running tomorrow.

Friday

November 23, 2007

Late nights...Thanksgiving dinners...Beer...

Not the things that make a champion. But long training runs have to happen. Since I wasn't feeling it...I'm tired; it's cold outside; my hips are tight and sore; I ran my 9 mile long run for the week on the elliptical at the gym. It was the longest I've ever done on a machine, one hour and 48 minutes which gives me perfect 12:00 mile splits and 1140 calories burned.

What's that? How am I feeling? Tired, and although the elliptical is supposed to be easier on your body/joints, my hips (especially the right one) are crazy sore and tight. I would be eternally grateful if anyone I knew would help me to stretch them out. That would be awesome beyond reason. It's practically orgasmic just thinking about it. (Yes, they're that sore.)

Training for the Disney 1/2 Marathon really did seem like a good idea in March...

Thursday

November 22, 2007

Gobble, Gobble!

On a cold and snowy Thanksgiving morning I rolled out of bed for my first 8K since Crazylegs in the spring. Thanks to my new Mizuno running pants (Breath Thermo ROCKS!!) I wasn't cold while running. I even had a new PR!! (I'm sure not having to wait for a porta potty during the race might have also helped). It was a great race, I loved the fact that there were runners with me the entire time. I know I'm slow, but it's nice to be part of a pack once in a while, even if you're in the back of that pack.

For the Lincoln Park Turkey Trot 8K, official time 55:53 with 11:15 splits.

Gobble, Gobble.

Monday

November 19, 2007

Today seemed like a long day...I almost didn't even go for a run; but then when I walked out from work and realized how warm it was I decided that I would go out and at least get in my 3 mile run. While I was out there, it was so beautiful (I was even wearing shorts--not just any shorts, PURPLE SPANDEX!! You have to realize how huge that is!!) that I just kept going and did one of my 5 mile runs. I'm not only glad that I got it done, but I'm also glad it was such a beautiful fall evening to get out there and run.

Sunday

November 18, 2007

It was a cold day for a run--actually it wasn't so bad once the run got started. I warmed up as I ran the race. Today was the Lincolnwood Turkey Trot. I ran in to Molly at the race, she was running the 5K with her mom. It's always great to run into a friendly face!

I had my new Mizuno running gloves which I was certain wasn't going to work. They're a new technology, called Breath Thermo. This fabric is supposed to warm up when it gets wet from training sweat. I was skeptical of the process, but after 3 miles I had to take them off they were so warm. I tucked them into my sweatshirt, and could even feel the warmth through the under shirt. I'd recommend them and I think I'm going to invest in a few more pieces for my winter training runs. With that kind of heat and the temps in Chicago, this girl is sold on the fact that it would be completely worth it!

To make the day even better, I had a 10K PR!! 1:08:57 which is an 11:06 mile split. Taking 2:35 off of the previous 10K PR of a few weeks ago! To add to my personal victory, this race had finisher medals!! Who knew? I've never run this short of a race that had medals! Yeah, hardware!

I love that I'm becoming a stronger more consistent runner. These PR's are showing me that these training runs do pay off. Sure I'm still slow, but I'm still excited when I've done better than I ever have before. Can't wait for the 8K on Thursday. I know that I'll have another PR...the last 8K I did was Crazylegs waaay back in the spring. My new goal for the 8K: under an hour. BRING IT ON!! (Can you tell I have the runner's high?)

Friday

November 16, 2007

I made myself go to the gym... it was only a 3 mile day, but I did it quickly. 3.1 miles in 32:44 and 436 calories. That's a 10:33 minute mile. I'm glad I pushed myself, because that 5K time rocks!! (For me anyway!)

Wednesday

November 14, 2007

I had a pretty good work out today after a much needed rest day. Quite motivated by a comment that a student made about my fatness, I really kicked my ass on the treadmill. I ran a total of 4 miles today. It was split by an hour workout of core and legs (hips are still killing me!!). My run was awesome, I ran each 2 mile stretch at a 9:50 ppm.

I haven't been able to hold that pace unless I was super pissed off!! Sure, I really pushed myself to do it (it was super hard!), and I couldn't do it for more than two miles at a time, but it's still a MAJOR improvement. I think that I might actually hit my goal of a 30 minute 5K sometime next year!

Monday

November 12, 2007

Sooo sore. Soooo stupid!

I worked out with Hector this morning...arms and core, and I was dragging ass. I also headed to the Lakefront Trail and managed to get the 8 mile training run out of the way. It was so ugly--two hours for 8 miles, so not cool. I must have walked 2 or 3 miles of it. I'm thinking I should have made today a rest day.

U-G-L-Y I ain't got no alibi, that run was ugly...ugh, ugh, so ugly!!

The good news is that I got the long run for the week out of the way!

Sunday

November 11, 2007

Today was the Sears Tower Climb. I started waaaay to slow. Final time: 37:08. That totally sucks ass. I wanted to be about at the 1/2 hour mark, not closer to 40 minutes. Next year WILL be faster. I promise!!

The good news? I got a new medal--oh yeah!! I *heart* hardware!!

Friday

November 9, 2007

I kicked balls on the treadmill, ran a mile in 9:50. Then I did an all over work out with Hector followed by two 11:45 minute miles for a total of 3 miles. I went in feelin' crabby (due to a crappy 8th grade class)and now I'm much better. Thank goodness for endorphins!

Thursday

November 8, 2007

It was absolutely gorgeous today!! I went for a run this morning due to it being report card pick up day. I ran about four miles (according to http://www.usatf.org/routes/map/, it was 4.38 miles). I did the Narragansett loop and two laps around the park. I wasn't really paying attention to the time, but I'm certain it wasn't more than 50 minutes. I felt like it was an easy run so I'd guess somewhere in the range of 11:30 minute miles.

My iPod wasn't charged this morning so I let it charge for about 5 minutes before I headed out. It was funny, because when I hit the 4 mile mark , the battery power gave out...guess I'm done for the day!!

Wednesday

November 7, 2007

Today I picked up my race packet for the Go Vertical Challenge on Sunday. I'm so PUMPED!! The pick up was at the Sears Tower...I'm totally making that building my bitch!!

Then I went to the gym and did five miles. The first two on the treadmill, then the next to on the elliptical, then the final back on the treadmill. My arches were starting to hurt, so that was the reason for the switch. I figure I burned something like 5 or 6 hundred calories, and I ran the miles at about 11:30 splits.

Tuesday

November 6, 2007

Today was just a tough day. Too much crap--I probably should have stayed in bed. I told myself that I had to go to the gym and do at least one of my scheduled runs, even if Tuesday is usually my rest day.

I had settled on the 5 mile run, but was actually feeling pretty good. I hit the 5 mile mark on the elliptical at 58 minutes even. I was on the elliptical because I'm swollen today, again. Even my toes hurt. Anywho, I plowed through the last two miles just to get this weeks 7 miler out of the way and completed that in 25 minutes. Total mileage: 7 miles in 83 minutes (1 hour 23 minutes) at a 11.52 mile pace (not a bad pace for a 7 miler!) and 900 calories.

This pooling edema crap needs to get taken care of--I'm thinkin' a second opinion is in my very near future. I can't handle much more of this.

Monday

November 5, 2007

Today I hit the stair machine rather than run. I did 80 floors in 16:33. I hope I'll be ok for Sunday. I'm sure I'll finish, but I want to be done in a 1/2 hour. Here's hopin'! 110 floors, here I come. I also registered for the Hustle (I only got the 1/2 climb...why is this event so frickin' popular?!?!) and the Aon Climb in January. After climb, I'll have done the three longest stair climbs in the United States--the tallest coming this Sunday!

I also worked with Hector today. I did some great work...lots of legs and core. I have a feeling I'm gonna be sore tomorrow, but I don't even care...I rocked it today!

Friday

November 2, 2007

Got to the gym right away after school and ran 2 miles--the first in 10 minutes and the second in 11. My shins and hips were hurtin'! Then I did legs and abs with Hector, thus further tightening my hips and hams.

I felt the need to complete my long run of the week, but due to the soreness and not wanting to completely kill myself, I finshed out 4 slow miles (52:21) on the elliptical. Total machine calories was about 700 and total time was 1:13:21...not too shabby for a total 10k time. I'm certian the only thing that made it so, was that I powered through the first 2 miles, but whatever works!

Wednesday

October 31,2007

Went to the gym after school...still in my Halloween costume. The staff had to ask who I was, but after I told them I was Daphne from Scooby-Doo, they got it. One of the trainers even told me that I had nice legs! :)

I ran 5 miles on the elliptical, due to some blisterage from my shoes. Burned off 615 calories in an hour.

Monday

October 29, 2007

Sooo....sore! Apparently kicking ass has it's disadvantages.

I ran a 10 minute mile warm up and lifted arms with Hector. Then I ran the last four miles on the elliptical, for a total distance of 5 miles. Even though I had a good stretch, I'm still in knots. Bleach :P

Sunday

October 28, 2007

Today was the Trick or Treat Trot through Lincoln Park. I was totally dreading it due to the costume party I went to the night before, but unlike last week, I had much less to drink. Irreguradless, waking up did not make me happy…so after hitting snooze a few too may times I had to rush around to get out the door. I did get rock star parking, but was concerned because I didn’t see too many people who wore a costume to run. Fortunately, more people dressed for the holiday showed up.

I had an 11:31 split for each mile and I felt so good through the run! It was a beautiful day and I blew my old pr out of the water by 5 minutes!! I was so pumped to do it!! I can NOT believe that I did it dressed as a pirate wearing an eye patch! I think that makes it a little more awesome! My time was 1:11:32—game on!!

Saturday

October 27, 2007

4 miles on the eliptical. My hips are soooo tight! (435 calories).

Wednesday

October 24, 2007

I've been a big lazy turd all week. I haven't run since Sunday. I mean, I guess I have an excuse due to the procedure on Monday and it is only Wednesday...but still felt like a big lazy turd. I did 5 miles on the elliptical in an hour for 625 calories. My legs and hips are freakishly tight, hence the elliptical usage. I wish I had someone who could give me a good stretch.

All I can think about is a good stretch...

mmm...stretch....

Sunday

October 21, 2007

Ran a 5k this morning, the Frank Lloyd Wright races in Oak Park. I ran like crap…but it’s my own damn fault. Why did I think that going out the bars until 4 am was a good idea? (And because you want to know, hell yeah I had fun!!) My time was about 38 minutes. Blah.

I loved the course. I didn’t know where a lot of the Wright houses were and the course ran right past them. Well, I walked the second mile for the aforementioned reason, but I’m sure I could use the excuse that I was looking at the architecture!

I also ran in to some people I knew…Bill from grad school (who did run well) and Chris (who had a late night too—but due to work—did not run well either). It’s so nice to not only see your old friends, but also recognize people race to race!

Wednesday

October 17, 2007

Went to the gym pretty late today. It was irritating. Check out the other blog for the list of reasons why.

Ran 4 miles on the eliptical in 46:08 and burned 530 calories.

Monday

October 15, 2007

Today I ran an 11 minute mile warm up and then worked out with Hector for an hour. It was a great work out. He payed me the the best complement! Not only did he tell me that I looked skinny but also that I was his most flexible and athletic client! That was so nice and motivational!! It really made me feel like he could see how hard I work. After that hour, I did the last 30 minutes of cardio on the eliptical (because my lower back is crazy sore), for 2.5 miles and 320 calories. Total distance between the treadmill and elpitcal was 3.5 miles and about 450 calories.

Saturday's race results were posted: I came in 10th for my age group!! Woo-Hoo!! I just made the top 10 (So there were only 12, but whatever, FIRST TIME IN THE TOP TEN!! 269th out of 339 and over all final time: 35:19.0 (but there was no chip start) 11:24/mile pace. Yet another moral victory!!

Saturday

October 13, 2007

This morning I headed to Concordia for the Makin' Tracks 5k. MUCH cooler than last weekend, and I ran much better. In fact my first mile split was 10:20! I slowed down after that, however it was a pr pace. I completed the race in just over 35 minutes.

Aside from the time and the first mile spilt, I also loved that I actually passed a bus! There was a bus and a car going idle speed down the race course on one street. I ran passed them! It definitely was a moral victory. I think the people in the bus must have felt that they were in Office Space.

I'm really diggin' the smaller road races because I seem to run much better. For such a small race (there were about 350 participants) I didn't feel that I was any more behind than normal, and the goody bag (complete with a long sleeved tech shirt) was pretty good!

Monday

October 8, 2007

Sooo tired today. Jogged a quarter mile and did some core work before Hector sent me home. That will teach me to party all night--Oh wait, I was tired because I was in GREEN BAY WATCHING THE BEARS WIN!!! Totally worth it.

Go Bears!!

(Hector's gonna kick my ass on Wednesday...)

Sunday

October 7, 2007

Today was the Lakefront Marathon in Milwaukee...we had an all chick team called Hell in Heels. I made our very awesome team shirts! Here are the girls...

The first leg was run by Michelle, I ran the second followed by Nichole and Barb was our anchor. Aside from Michelle, who apparently loves the heat and humidity, we did't run very well. Our time was 4:16 with a 9:47 split. It really was brutally ugly to run. (The same day at the Chicago Marathon, they closed the course and someone even died.) I really wasn't feeling well, and it turned out nether was anyone else.

Then sadly, when we walked back to the car, we found this...

Someone actually broke into Michelles truck and stole Nicholes purse! How awful!! And the car was parked on a major street! UGH!! Some people just suck. And further more, the Milwaukee system for filing a report was awful. I was on hold with 911 for 20 minutes. What if that was a life threatening emergency?!?! And the guy on the phone was useless.

The concept of the relay is really cool, and I'm sure I'd do it again, but hopefully under better conditions.

Monday

October 1, 2007

Today was an awesome work out!!

35 minutes on the treadmill--3.2 miles. Then arms and core with Hector for an hour. It just flew by! I made up the last ten minutes of my training run rounding out the total mileage to 4 miles.

I just wish the pounds came off as easy as it was to do the work outs.

Sunday

September 30, 2007

This morning was the Fall in to Fitness 5k. The bounus? It started at Portage Park. It was so nice to not have to drive to the race. I loved the race route running past my house! :)

It was a beautiful morining for a run! I finished in 37:13, with an 11:59 split. Not bad, but not good either. I need to learn to run faster, it seems my peek was in about July. I don't know what I did differently--I'm hoping it's only due to my recent weight gain, rather than me sucking.

I also sent in my form for a CARA participation award! I'm so proud that I qualify, who knew in my first year running?! I didn't have the 107k in CARA races (only CARA races count), but I did have a 1/2 Marathon (Chicago Distance Classic), a 10 miler (Downers Grove 5 & 10 Miler), 10k (Run for the Zoo), and 5k (Chicago Firefighter's Run for the Kids). I know I ran more than just CARA races, but it's still nice to know I did it!

Saturday

September 29, 2007

I had a session with Hector this morning. It was mostly core, with a little back and legs.

This week I was so good about following the diet, and I didn’t loose—I gained. I completely snapped on Hector. I’m such an asshole. I feel awful, he didn’t deserve it. I was frustrated (too frustrated to even do cardio--I couldn't stop myself from crying) and took it out on him. I owe him a huge apology. I wouldn’t blame him if he gave up on me; after all, I think I’m starting to give up on myself.

Thursday

September 27, 2007

I dragged my fat carcass off the couch and did cardio on the elliptical for an hour. It was 5 miles with .3 mile cool down and a total of 700 calories.

It was much easier to "watch" Gray's Anatomy while on the machine...I definitely wasn't bored on it for an hour. Too bad my regular gym doesn't have the personal TVs on each machine. That would totally keep me on 'em longer!

Feeling fat. I'm certian Hector's nazi food schedule isn't doing what it's supposed to be doing...besides being rigid and annoying. I much prefer eating when I'm hungry rather than on a schedule. We'll see what happens when I weigh-in on the Saturday.

Tuesday

September 25, 2007

Today I worked out with Hector. I feel gross and fat. Blah.

We did legs until my hamstring got super tight. Then I did 50 slow minutes on the Precor--3.75 miles and 450 calories.

BLAH BLAH BLAH

Sunday

September 23, 2007

I went for a mile walk around the park. Does it still count that there was a craft fair going on? It was still a mile.

Saturday

September 22, 2007

Worked out with Hector. Mostly core. I did loose some weight, but I don't feel good about it. I wish I felt better. All this medical stuff is really dragging me down.

Wednesday

September 19, 2007

Lifted with Hector...need to get back on the cardio band wagon, but I feel like crap.

(insert icky face here.)

Monday

September 17, 2007

312 is insane. I can't believe how bad they are. I am in such a groove to run after having them I need to take advantage of that. I think Mondays, I should see if Hector can go at 5 so that I can take advantage of that anger and hit the treadmill.

I ran 3/4 of a mile before legs and core and another 3/4 after. I just was fatigued and headed home for football and Chipotle.

Saturday

September 15, 2007

I did some core work with Hector. I've been really sluggish about running, and I had yet another doctor's appointment, so I only had time to run about 2 1/2 miles.

Is the doctor part over yet?

Friday

September 14, 2007

Today felt wonderful. I was worried because I ran out the door with out taking my drugs (I completely forgot--I was in a rush). But aside from the sinus headache I had by the afternoon, I wasn't too bad.

I ran 45 minutes on the treadmill at a 12 minute mile pace, and the last mile at an 11:19 pace. I ran 4 miles and burned 540 calories. It felt really good--great run!

Wednesday

September 12, 2007

My calves have been crazy sore. I'm wondering if due to the medication, my electrolytes are off. I'm really getting frustrated with my body being out of whack. I eat healthy, I weight train 3x a week and run 3 to 4 days a week. There's no freakin' reason I should GAIN weight. I know once it get's figured out I'll be fine, but it's soooo frustrating right now!
I'd seriously kill for some dirty mashed potatoes and a cupcake.

I did arms/back and core and then ran 35 minutes slow (due to the soreness), for a total of 3 miles (with the cool down).

Monday

September 10, 2007

Went to the gym after work. I was so freakin' irritated with 312 that I got on the treadmill and ran a 9:30 minute mile like it was nothing. Nice warm-up, huh? I streached and then Hector and I did legs and core. I finished out by running 2 more miles (total of 35 minutes).

Clearly I run faster when I'm irritated.

Saturday

September 8, 2007

Happy Birthday to me!

I did a major core work out today. I'd feel better if I wasn't retaining so much fluid. Trying to sweat it out isn't working and neither is the lasiks. I couldn't bare to run on the treadmill--I just didn't want to type in my new age! :)

Wednesday

September 5, 2007

Today I did 45 minutes on the treadmill. I ran 10 and walked 5, repeating 3 times.

I'm sore from yesterday, but I think it's due to my shoes giving out. I've had them for at least 3 months... I ordered new ones, but they're on back order, so I have no idea when I will recieve them.

I also lifted, doing arms and a little core work.

Tuesday

September 4, 2007

My training officially started for the Disney Half-Marathon today!! Yeah!!

I went to the gym, and did a 35 minute run on the treadmill. It was a big deal for two reasons:
1. My fear of the treadmill. Since that one time I went to the gym with Tom and he neglected to show me the emergency stop and I shot off the back.
2. I haven't run on the thing since (about 5 or 6 years now).

So I did the 35 minute run, at a negitive integer. This means my first mile was done with the treadmill set at 5.2 an 11:28 pace, the second at 5.3 at an 11:16 pace, and the last at 5.4 at an 11:06 pace. It was WAY harder than I thought it would be, but I felt pretty good and burned 472 calories and ran 3.1 miles.

Saturday

September 1, 2007

I went to the gym today. I lifted arms and did some core. I only ran a mile, split between the warm up and cool down. I really have to push myself to get to the gym lately.

I'm so sick of how awful my body feels. I know I haven't been eating the best ever, but I definately haven't been terrible enough to add ten pounds in a week. I really want my body to get regulated. Part of me fears that I'm just a fat ass--but I run on average 20-25 miles a week, plus strength training 2-3 times a week, so I can't figure out how that's possible. I just need to keep telling myself--one step at a time.

Wednesday

August 29, 2007

And the payback from yesterday sets in...my quads are tight!! I did go to the gym. I started with a mile to warm up, with some streaching. Then I lifted with arms and did some core work and finished with a mile cool down and more streaching. (The running was in total about 250 calories).

Still feeling like a bloated fat cow...but at least my workout felt good.

Tuesday

August 28, 2007

It was my last day before school started and it was gorgeous outside so I went for a nice long run on the Lakefront path. I've never taken the time to drive somewhere to run, so this was a wonderful treat. I ran from Foster to the Lake Front Theatre at Fullerton and back. I was getting tired on the way back so I walked a little (and let's face it, I didn't eat much today). Turns out it was about 9 miles--close to 10 if you count the detours I ran around the tennis courts in north Lincoln Park looking for a bathroom (when you gotta go, you gotta go!).

It's amazing I'm starting to dig these longer runs. I wish I was a little faster, but then I wonder if I'd enjoy them so much. It's so wonderful to take in everything and just enjoy movement. Looking at the water, and the sail boats...even the butterflies flitting around the path. Even with all the crap that's been going on (doctors, bad test results, bad news...ect.) this run definitely reminded me that I'm surrounded by beauty and truly blessed.

Monday

August 27, 2007

I went to the gym after my doctors appointment...while some of the news could have been worse, a lot of it could have been much better. I had Hector kick my ass with the weights. Basicly a little of everything--arms, legs and core. Then I beat on myself for another hour on the eliptical machine...6 miles later I decided that I needed to go and eat some cupcakes.

I know eating crap isn't going to solve anything, but the buttercreme frosting on a 1/2 dozen cupcakes, a mini frozen pizza and some milk sure took my mind off things for a while. Maybe there will be some better news at the appointment tomorrow.

Sunday

August 26, 2007

I made it to the gym late today, but at least I went. I ran a 5k--3.1 miles (400 calories) in 35 minutes.

Then I went to Chipotle. I'm not sure it even balances out, but that burrito bowl was awesome!!

Saturday

August 25, 2007

Still retaining fluids...feeling icky. Hector has been MIA (Hector...where are you?!?!)

Went to the gym, did 5 miles on the elliptical.

Friday

August 24, 2007

Really, getting tired of August sucking my ass. My blood test results were not good. I'm anemic and have really low iron, as well as a Factor 8 deficiency. Further more, my Creatinine levels are way high...that means my kidneys aren't working properly. Therefore, I'm retaining fluids...that whole gaining 10 lbs. of fluid in one day sucks. To top it off, I can't see the doctor until next week...grr....

Now that I've bitched about it. I walked from the car place home ('bout a mile) and then I did 4 miles on the elliptical at the gym.

Wednesday

August 22, 2007

I tried running on my sore foot today. I made it about a 1/2 mile before I started to get sore...So I headed back. Sad that it was 5 minutes out and 10 minutes back. I headed to the gym and got on the eliptical for an hour and did 5 miles (about 600 calories).

Total for the day: 6 miles

Monday

August 20, 2007

3 easy miles...feeling sluggish today. :P

Sunday

August 19, 2007

I decided to try to give the foot a go today. I did it on the elptical, because I figured I'd be less apt to reinjure it. I did 7 miles (800-ish calories)--slow and easy. My foot's a little tight now, slightly sore. I think that I'll be doing my runs on the eliptical for a while. But it's better than nothing...I've missed it! I just wish that I could play out side!! :) It's a good thing I don't have to be training for anything specific.

Saturday

August 18, 2007

Today is the first day my foot has felt a little better. I didn't run on it at all, but I did go to the gym. I lifted for an hour (arms and legs) and did some core work--whatever I could do with out aggravating it.

Thursday

August 16, 2007

I'm not sure what I did to my left foot, but it's definately not feeling good. It hurts on the top, and I feel as if I'm walking like an old lady. I've had trouble walking let alone running, and it's swollen so I took Tuesday and Wednesday off.

I did go to the go to the gym this morning. It's nice to be there early when there's on one there. I worked my arms...bench, incline bench, row (machine and free), flys, bi's, tri's, and some core work too. I just really wanted to work out, but still stay off my foot. I hope it starts to feel better soon, sitting on my butt is driving me nuts!

Monday

August 13, 2007

Today I headed to the gym. Most would say that I deserve a day off, but maybe I’ll do that tomorrow. While I’m still excited and proud of myself, I still felt some soreness. I ran an easy mile, did a little core and some lifting with my arms, nothing huge. I actually did it more to loosen up and stretch. I’m still a little sore, but I know the stretching did some good.

On another note, there was a comment on my other blog for the ½ Marathon yesterday. Apparently this person used her GPS and the course was actually 13.95 miles (several other GPS users corroborated)…more than ¾ of a mile longer than it should have been. That makes me feel tons better about my time, because it means that I probably did run 13.1 miles in under 2:45. Hooray for setting a goal and achieving it!!! (still doing the happy dance!!)

Sunday

August 12, 2007

I did it!!! First ½ Marathon!! (insert happy dance here Woo-Hoo!!)

This morning was the Chicago Distance Classic and while there’s a strong possibility it’s due to a runner’s high, I never thought I’d run 13.1 miles and have this big of a smile on my face!! (Still doing the happy dance)

It wasn’t all smooth sailing; I did hit a few speed bumps. The first slight problem was around mile six…my iPod ran out of juice. After I quit swearing, I started singing to myself in my head. (Did you know “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and the “Alphabet Song” have the same tune? My profound discovery around mile 7). The second came between miles nine and ten...my lungs decided that they had had enough. If I didn’t slow down to walk they were going to revolt with an asthma attack. While my legs wanted to keep going, I decided that a nice little walk break was in order. The last problem didn’t present itself until much later in the day…the sun wasn’t up at 4:30 when I woke up, but sunblock would have been a really smart choice (not that my sports bra burn line isn’t sexy). Two out of three of those bumps are fixable… Memo to me: 1) Charge iPod, 2) Slather on the SPF.

I finished the race in 2:50:59. I really did want it to be under 2:45…but my lungs didn’t agree. All well, there’s always next time!! On yet another side tangent, I realized today that I’ve run 101K in races this year. That’s 62.62 miles! I haven’t decided if I want to add up all my training runs with that too…

It was a great race! Thank you to everyone who sent their advice and well wishes for this race…as well as telling me that I’d do all right (Chris) and not die (Barb) or even that I’m crazy (Mom). I’m a little sad I have to wait until January before I run one again. But until then I have a big honkin’ penguin medal, a little bit of bragging rights, and an excuse to keep doing the happy dance!

Monday

August 6, 2007

Still freaking out about the CDC. I told Barb that I was going to die. She said I'm not going to die, I just can't think of anything better to do.

People who recognize me at the gym are even noticing that I'm stressed out. They keep asking if I'm ok. It's really the fact that I've never run this far before--the whole unknown thing. I've done ten, so I need to tell myself at that point in the race, just one 5K to go.

I worked on my legs, butt and hips with a little core (can you tell I'm paranoid?) and then ran 3 miles. Probably should have done 4, but the arch of my foot was starting to hurt, so I cut it short and came home after an hour an a half.

Saturday

August 4, 2007

Headed to the gym this morning. Totally freaking out--I felt retarded on the machines. I need to be more positive about this race...I can't keep psyching myself out like this. I did legs/hips and then ran 5 miles. The running part did chill me out...a little.

Friday

August 3, 2007

Mom and Jack left today at the ass crack of dawn. I took a run and refused to figure out the distance. It was a beautiful morning...just running for the joy of moving. It was nice to not stress about the 1/2 coming up. I need to just go and run like this more often.

Wednesday

August 1, 2007

The CDC is 12 days away and I'm still freaking out. I keep telling myself that if there's a 4:00 pacer, I'm not going to be the last person crossing the finish line. I'm half tempted to make myself a shirt that says "God, please let there be someone behind me to read this." on the back. Barb said that I have to finish or she'll kick my ass. ('Cuz, that's motivation!)

Ran five miles today (about 600 calories--I love using the on-line estimates to calculate this!) and I worked/lifted my arms until they felt like jello (I'm certian that's an athletic technical term).

I'm actually liking this whole running thing. Sure, at this point 13.1 miles scares the crap out of me, but once I get through it, I'm sure like the 10 miler, I'll be fine. (If only I could get that to sink through the panic mode that's going on in my head!) I also realized that since I signed up for the 1/2 marathon, I've lost more than 10 lbs. Not part of the plan, but not going to complain either. Who knows what will happen by Disney?

Tuesday

July 31, 2007

4 very ugly miles.

Monday

July 30, 2007

Clearly, I can never wear the shirt I wore yesterday in another race...I have never chaifed from a shirt before! Sports bra, yes--shirt no. Seriously, I didn't know my collar bones could get chaifed! It seriously hurts to wear a t-shirt. Neosporin+pain relief my ass. It's totally false advertising.

Headed to the gym today, I decided to take it easy on my joints and do 5 miles on the eliptical. I did it at a 10:15/mile pace (600 calories) with the resistance set at 6. I also worked with Hector...mostly legs with a little core and arms. I was my hips were sore by the end of the workout. I think I need a nice slow and easy run tomorrow so that I'm not super sore.

Sunday

July 29, 2007

Today was the Fleet Feet Women's Festival. I was a bit rushed getting to the starting line...parking sucked! I think I had a mile run before the race--at least I was warmed up! I did the 10K. It was my first since the awful showing at the Run for the Zoo. I did much better, no wall, no elevation, no hills :)...it was great!

I finished 1:17:07 with a 12:25 split. Sure better than the last time! My lungs did feel really tight this morning. I think it was due to the humidity. Aside from that I really felt like I had a good stride going after mile 4.

I even ran in to Krista from Augie! It was a super speedy reunion! She also ran the 10K. We caught up on the little things and I headed home. Such a lovely morning!

I can't believe that the Chicago Distance Classic is exactly two weeks away. Is it to early to start panicing?

Saturday

July 28, 2007

I know today should be a rest day, but I need to get the lactic acid out of my calfs!!

I did an easy .8 (100 calories) on the eliptical to warm up and did a combo of streaching and core for the next hour. I do feel better. I'm hopeing that did the trick!

Thursday

July 26, 2007

Today I worked out with Hector...man am I still sore from those mountians!!

I warmed up on the eliptical for .8 of a mile and 100 calories.

Hector and I did core and arms. I really need to get myself streached out before this race on Sunday!

Monday

Still in the mountians of Utah...

Today was amazing!! I got up at 4:30 to go to work with Barb. It was still dark, but the view of Salt Lake City from the University Hospitol is so pretty! Barb recomended that if I wanted to see the city on my run, that I take foothill to 500S (ugh--500!) and on back to her place.

As I started my run the sun hadn't come up and it was quite dark. I was running behind the hospitol and as I neared the heli-pad I noticed a trail leading farther into the foothills. For some reason I took the detour. Climbing 3/4 of a mile straight up was a challenge, but let's face it, it was much to steep to run. I made it to the summit of one of the foothills. It was so peaceful...as dawn broke I could hear the birds begin to chirp and I saw a glorious sunrise over the mountians. It was so amazing!! The colors seemed to light the sky on fireI wish I was a better writer so that I could describe it!

I headed back down the hill, and now that I could see the path, I wondered how the hell I had gotten up the hill! This was one steep path!! I did make it down safely, with only some dirt and rocks in my shoes. I took my run throught the campus and got a bit turned around. After I stopped and picked up a map I finally found my way to 500S. I crossed to the south side of the street because I wasn't interested in running down the S-curve that I did yesterday. As I was running passed a cemetary, I noticed movement. There, beneth an evergreen tree, not 25 feet away was an eight point buck watching me run passed. I skidded to a stop and hung on the fence a few minutes just staring. I've never seen a deer that close before!! He just seemed so content!

As I got closer to Barb's, I encountered more early morning wildlife. A small flock of either quail or partridges (I'm not a bird expert) came running up some stairs as I ran down them...they were so cute! I also saw an enourmous snail on the sidewalk. He was the side of my thumb! I was worried for the little guy...didn't he know that this was SALT Lake?

This run totally made up for the mess that was yesterday! I'm so blessed to have had these moments in my run! Those 4 miles (except for the one up the mountian) really flew by!

July 22, 2007

Up in the mountians of Utah...

I have to say elevation and "foothills" suck my will to live. This was the ugliest run I've ever done. I had the brilliant (and by brilliant I mean, "WTF was I thinking!!") idea to run east up 500S in Salt Lake City. This Chicago native knows nothing of the hills of the Rocky Mountians. Seriously, there were parts of this path that had stairs because the sidewalks were too steep! I'm sure the desert climate and elevation had nothing to do with my misery either...

Things I learned:
1. Running up hill sucks ass.
2. Running downhill isn't much of a picnic either after doing the up hill climb.
3. Body Glide does NOT make you "glide" up hills easier.
4. Even after 2.5 miles up hill I am highly motivated to run to sprinklers and away from Mormons trying to convert me.
5. Salt Lake City does not have drinking fountians.
6. Even during this run, I still have the ability to come up with some truely creative strings of swear words.
7. My inhailer is my favorite running buddy.

I survived my first run at elevation, all 5 miles of it. It took more than an hour to do this run. (1:21:23--does elevation count as hitting the wall?) I think tomorrow I will get up with Barb and ride to work with her so that my run is mostly downhill with out the death inspiring up hill.

Friday

July 19, 2007

Today was the Firefighter's Run for the Kids 5K (I'm still not sure which kids, but as Damita may remember "It's for da kidz!). On the walk there, I had a conversation with another runner named Chris. I wasn't sure where the ran began, but since he had run it for the last 5 or 6 years, I followed him to the start point. He completely led me astray! It was only a matter of turning left where we should have turned right, so it's not as if we ended up another zip code or anything. We did get there with pleanty of time to streach, but taking the road less traveled involved climbing over the 7 foot iron fence surrounding Soldier Field.

After turning the 5K into a steeple chase, it was a fairly nice run. The first half was into the wind, but not horrible. I ran a perfect 35:00. Not a PR, but I don't think I could get an even 35 minutes again if I tried! There was beer and guac at the finish line (I think all runs should finish with beer and guacamole!), so I hung out until I got too chilly.

Good race! Time to pack for Utah...

Tuesday

July 17, 2007

Headed to the gym today. I warmed up on the bike for 5 minutes--2 miles. Then Hector worked my arms and core. He really worked my arms, at one point I told him that I'd probably hate him tomorrow! It was good, he worked me.

Then I did 4 miles on the eliptical with the resistance set at 15 and the incline at 6. I got 500 calories out of that and finished in 50 minutes.

I picked up my race packet for the 5K on Thursday. It was quite annoying that the only size for the shirts that were left was a 2XL. It's enormous, I could have a party in this shirt! They said I could try to exchange it on Thursday, they may have more shirts then.

The good news is that with my Fleet Feet rewards, I got The Stick. What is The Stick? It's a wonderful devise that rolls out muscle kinks and aches. I love The Stick! And now I have one of my very own!

Monday

July 16, 2007

I haven't been doing much lately. I had an awful, conflict filled weekend (don't worry, there were some highlights...even on the darkest days there's light!), but I didn't do much along the lines of working out or training. I still have that one HUGE blister on my heel. It's not so much of a blister as an open festering sore (gross, I know. Try living with it!!). I really want it to heal, but I also know that the Chicago Distance Classic is less than one month away!!

Hector couldn't make it today, so I headed to the gym for 4 miles on the eliptical (hoping to take some pressure off the blistered foot). I started with 20 minutes on the stair machine. That was a total of 100 floors and 250 calories. Then I did the 4 miles on the elipical. It was a 12 minute pace with the resistance set at 15 and I burned 500 calories.

On a side note, I looked back at the 2/16/07 post (exactly 5 months to the day) and realized on that day I climbed 80 floors in 20 minutes. Look at me goin' with my bad self!! If I can get in to do the Hustle next year I know I'll beat my goal of under 30 minutes!!

Friday

July 12, 2007

Today was the Niketown Bastille Day run. I thought I was going to have company for it, but it didn't work out. The race shirt was awesome--a red Nike Dry-Fit. It's almost as cool as the Run for the Zoo shirt.
I was a bit worried about this race...first I haven't trained well, and I still have blisters. Secondly, I forgot my iPod and inhailer, and had to go back for them and felt rushed getting down there. Finally, at the start I bumped in to one of the Best Men from Kim's Wedding. It was nice to see him and all, we had the small talk chit-chat, but then he said "I didn't see you at A's BBQ." That's because I wasn't invited. It was not only hard to say that, but I know it's been a year since I've seen or spoken with Kim. It's so hard because I wish I knew what I did that was so awful for her not to speak to me. Even if it was un-fixable, I just want her to know that I would never do anything to hurt her or her family. But I can't appologize for something I didn't know that I did. I guess on the off chance she reads this, I hope that she calls. I do miss her. Anywho, the point being, that shook me up.

Suprisingly, I really did have an AWESOME race!! I blew my old PR out of the water by almost 6 minutes! I guess with everthing I just took off and found my zone. I finished in 31:55, that's a 10:18 split! I was so excited with my time. I just hope that with the rest of my races I can keep up that pace.

Tuesday

July 10, 2007

Enough sitting around and waiting for my blisters to knit!! Keeping off my feet sucks!!

I worked out with Hector for an hour today. It was total body lifting--arms, legs and core.

I then decided to try to run on the eliptical machine. It's not the same as running on the road, but it was worth a try concidering the worst of my blister/crack hasn't healed yet. I used special blister band-aids--which actually seemed to work. They don't stay on as well as the package says but they're better than nothing.

I did 7 miles on the eliptical. It was the most boring run ever! Those last two miles were killing me...I just can't stay on one machine for more than an hour. I was so bored, but I have to admit it's better than doing nothing.

I have a race on Thursday. I don't feel prepared because of my blister-induced inactivity. It's only a 5K...I'm hoping everything will work out!

Stupid Blisters.

Friday

July 6, 2007

I've had these awful cracks/blisters on my feet. They're so deep I can barely walk let alone run. I think they've gotten infected-- red, hot, itchy and gross!

I tried to run today. I made it 2 miles out and I just couldn't get a stride. My gait was all weird, I wasn't running on my left heal at all. It wasn't good. I made it home, but I only ran 4 miles. I probably shouldn't have because it really agravated the blisters more. They need to heal!! I have the CDC in just over a month!!

Monday

July 2, 2007

After taking 4 days off to stain my deck (yeah, I really did work on it for 4 days straight--and it's still not done!!) I headed to the gym to let Hector kick my butt for an hour.

And he did. It was a leg work out. I haven't been this sore in a while! Lots of lunges and some weight work. Soreness is setting in!

Tuesday

June 26, 2007

I'm sure that my body is telling me to slow down, but I'm too stubborn to listen. I really wanted to get a 7 mile run in, but I knew I wouldn't make it. I decided to go for the 4 and if I felt like it add a run around the park for the additional mile. I wasn't feelin' it, and I ran it anyway. That last mile was lame! I probably walked half of it. Grrr. I really should trust my gut and listen to my body. All well, I got this weeks 5 mile run out of the way.

Today--5 miles in a little over an hour.

Monday

June 25, 2007

Today I worked out with Hector--Yeah!! It's been a few weeks and I've missed him!

I did a half mile warm up--65 calories and streached.

Then it was mostly arms and some core work. I shouldn't leave him alone for an extended period of time, because he comes up with some new way to make me sore! I'm not complaining--it's good for me! He also streached my legs because I was sore and tight from the 10 miler yesterday.

UPDATE--
I know I posted that the race was 2:05 ish for 10 miles... Well, I checked the race results and the results were actually 1:59:06.2---That's an 11:55/mile pace!! I knew I rocked that course!! WOO-HOO!!

Sunday

June 24, 2007

Today was the Downers Grove 10 miler—and I rocked!!

Of course I was slower than most, but I didn’t get lapped until Mile 4…not bad! I finished the race in 2:05: ish (will update when times are posted). That’s a 12:30 mile pace. I was just happy to finish! But when I saw the finish clock, I was so happy with my time! This is the farthest distance I’ve ever run!

It was a course with some rolling hills. Some of them I needed to walk up (along with the water stops), but for the most part, I ran the majority of the race.

This race really makes me feel better about the half marathon. I just need to keep up with my training and I’m feeling pretty confidant I won’t embarrass myself!

And now, I’m so ready for next year’s Soldier Field 10 Mile! I want to do it because it finishes on the 50 yard line of my beloved Bears Stadium…I guarantee you, after I cross that finish line I’ll be making grass angels on the field! :)

Thanks, Barb for the countless pep-talks and awesome Running Mix!! I couldn’t have done it with out you! And thanks to Mom and Jack for waiting at the finish line to cheer me on…it got a little lonely out there!!

Friday

June 22, 2007

Following this traning plan, I needed a cross training day...so I did Yoga for an hour--Strength and Balence at the intermediate level. I've got a touch of soreness going on...at least I know I did something! Today's a day off...Sunday's the big day--10 miles.

June 21, 2007

The Jim Gibbon's Run

This race really seemed to kick start me back in to training for the 1/2 marathon. I went to the start line feeling good and ready to run! I hit the first mile marker at 11:20...and I felt AWESOME. Sure, compared to the elete, that blows, but I can see and feel the improvement running the 5K distance. The second mile was about 24:00 and when I got to the finish I was so crushed when I saw the time was registered 43:00!! How is it possible?!?! Sure, I had to walk for a little bit, but seriously? Almost 20 mintues for a mile? What the hell?!?! I could have walked it backwards faster. Any who...I got my free beer and listened to the Polkaholics, and got an autograph on my bib from a 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist.

Now, that the race results have been posted I'm a little sad to see that my results are listed under the name of Rachel Sierminski. I know this to be the case because she has two entrys and I have none, and one of the entrys is under my bib nimber. Not that it's her fault in anyway, shape or form...it just sucks, because I have a PR!! Yeah! The clock must have been running from the mens time, because my time was 37:10!! That's an 11:58 mile! I finially broke 12 minutes!

This has been a total confidace boost because I have a 10 mile race on Saturday. I decided to use it as a training run for the halfie...I've been paranoid all week that they were going to close the course on me for being slow! Now, I'm feeling better about doing it (but still a little scared they'll be picking up cones behind me :)) I'm hoping for under 2.5 hours...

Tuesday

June 19, 2007

Today I ran pretty much the same route, just a few more twists and turns. When I mapped it out, it was a little farther than yesterday--5.13 miles. It wasn't much of a run, I felt like I walked half of it, but I did the distance. I'm more worried about Saturday now, hopefully a rest between Thrusday's 5K and the 10 miler will help.

Monday

June 18, 2007

Back to training! I ran 5.02 miles today. I forgot to look at the clock when I left, but I got home at 4:55! I seem to have this 4.5 mile wall. I don't know what it is! I did crazy legs and was fine with that...I don't know if it's a hydration/nutrition issue or what.

This week I have two races, Thursday's 5K and today I registered for a 10 mile run. It fits into the training plan. I'm just worried about the wall. I guess I have to keep telling myself, penguins always finish!

June 17, 2007

I've had this cough forever! I haven't worked out in 2 weeks, so I decided to head out for a run to try to clear it out. I ran 2.3 miles. I was super itchy afterwards and still coughing like a smoker.

Yesterday, I signed up for the Jim Gibbons run on Thursday. I know I'll be ok for that, it's the Distance Classic I'm worried about. I need to find more races to use as training runs to keep myself motivated!

Sunday

June 10, 2007

Ugh, I've had this nasty cold. I haven't been to the gym all week, and volleyball was cancelled on Thursday due to the gym being used for something else. I knew I wouldn't be able to run, so I walked to the Family Fruit Market on Cicero. It was just under 2.5 miles. I seriously fell asleep at 7 pm. I really need to shake this cold!

Tuesday

June 5, 2007

Soreness has definately set in...Hector definately worked my chest yesterday. I didn't know those muscles could hurt like that!

I went and hit an easy day on the Precor. I ran 5.25 miles in an hour (plus the machines 5 minute cool down) with the resistance set at 10 and burning 650 calories.

I found a training plan for the 1/2 marathon. I'm not sure if I like it...but I'll keep up with it until I find something I like better! I also found out that Sarah registered for the same race!! I think that this time, she's going to be waiting for me at the finish line!

Monday

June 4, 2007

Today I warmed up on the Precor. One mile 11:20 and 160 calories.

Hector kicked my ass today. Just when I thought he couldn't come up with more evil things to make me do; he busts out not only the leg weights but also having me hold my legs a few inches off the ground while I did a chest press. It was crazy hard!! He gave me alot of core work today and a combo of legs and arms. I'm getting better balence on the ball, and my side planks are awesome!!

On another note, I did something else stupid...I registered for the Chicago Distance Classic. The prize? A "big honkin' penguin medle" (their discription, not mine). Yeah, it's a half marathon. 13.2 miles is more than double what I did yesterday. What the hell was I thinking?!?! See? No reason to panic for Disney, I have something else to worry about!

Training plans...need to find a training plan....

Sunday

June 3, 2007

Today was my first 10k!! I was super slow, but I finished. I felt pretty good for the first half. I even ran the first mile in just under 11 minutes. No I didn't maintain that pace, but it was a great start! The problem was that I was dragging though the end. I completely hit a wall somewhere between mile 4 and 5. It just felt as if my body was saying "Ok, you're done running. That's enough, now". My time was about 1:21:33 with a 13:10 split. I didn't come in last for either the age group or the entire race (close, but still not dead last!) I even got an awesome Green Camo Print Nike Dry Fit shirt. I'd even do this race again!

Saturday

June 2, 2007

This morning I went for a short little run. I ran around the park, up to Austin, down Berteau and around Luther North. It was about 2 miles.

It's a little humid today, but it was nice to get out and run. I didn't do anything crazy, I've got that 10K tomorrow. Although as I was running up Austin, there was a dead cat on the side walk... It was very sad. He looked like he was sleeping on his back (Seamus does that sometimes). I guess, it's nicer to think of that...it's just more peaceful that way.

On another note, I found a great website where you can map out your routes by miles or kilometers. It's definately fun to play with and I can find milage for my runs. Now I don't have to be on the precor or treadmill to know how far I've gone!

Thursday

May 31, 2007

I warmed up on the stair machine. 14:20 for minutes and 160 calories. I totally forgot to look at how many flights that was...I know it was more than 52...but beyond that I have no clue. All well.

Hector worked my mostly arms and core today. He really made me sweat--I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow, but that's a good thing!! He attached 2 pound weights to my legs. Sightly evil, but I could do it--'cuz, I'm tough like that!!

Volleyball was cancled... :( I think I'm going through withdrawl!

Monday

May 28, 2007

1 mile warm up on the Precor--11 minutes (woo-hoo! I'm getting faster!) 130 calories.

Worked out with Hector for an hour. Mostly core work with some arms.

I'm still feeling eh. I'm glad I went, but I could tell I wasn't 100%. I think there's a nap in my future. I hope I start feeling better so I can get through that 10k on Sunday!

May 27, 2007

The Madison Marathon!!

Barb and Sarah, ran the marathon...I ran the 6K. It was actually 6.2 miles, but with my confusion of running with the 10k people for a short distance, my run was a little longer. I figure, my run may have been a little over 4 miles. I felt pretty good, even still being sick.

Here's myself, Sarah and Barb after the races:

It was a beautiful day for a run...hopefully next weekend's 10K will be just as good!

Tuesday

May 22, 2007

I warmed up for 5 minutes on the Precor. .4 miles and 50 calories.

I was going to do it for longer, but I noticed that both stair machines were open--those things are always taken with line for each one!! I hopped on for 12:30 and climbed 61 floors and 152 calories.

Then I worked out with Hector for an hour. Core work out and arms. I hope I'm ready for the 6.2K I'm running this weekend...or even more daunting the 10K the weekend after that!!

On another note, I registered for the Disney Half-Marathon. I'm wondering how Barb talked me into this one!! 13.2 miles seems crazy long right now for my unconditioned self. What's my motivation? 2 things: 1) Knowing Barb will be running it with me every step of the way (she's the best cheerleader ever!!) and 2) There's a Donald Duck shaped finishers medal. There's no use in panicing now...I'll wait until December for that!

Thursday

May 17, 2007

Worked out with Hector for an hour-- core and arms. My arms are so weak...a least there may be some muscles being worked.

Volleyball for 2 hours at the park. I spent that time trying to learn to serve over-hand. I completely suck! It was like a high school P.E. nightmare. Fortunately, everyone was really supportive about helping me learn. I did manage to get a few over (without much consistancy). At least I tried--HOO-WHA!

Tuesday

May 15, 2007

48 Minutes on the Precor with the resistance set at 13.
500 Calories--4 miles

I need to get more cardio in, but there's only 2 stair machines--What's up with that?!?!

Monday

May 14, 2007

One mile warm up on the Precor (130 Calories)

One hour with Hector--core and legs.

Thursday

May 10, 2007

Volleyball day! (2 hours)

I was on fire today! I had some great spikes. I did almost tear my fingernail off...the ball hit the tip of my finger and sepreated the nail from the bed. Nasty blood everywhere. But, I got a bandage and kept playing...GAME ON!

Monday

May 7, 2007

Worked out with Hector today for an hour.

Legs and Abs.

I need to get motivated and get more cardio in through out the week.

Sunday

May 6, 2007

7 Bridges Early Start 5K

This was a cute little suburban race. I didn't like the fact that it wasn't chipped. It's not motivating. The time was super slow (41:48). I wasn't really motivated. No more running with Jay. This one did have a good goody bag, but not as good as CPD!

Saturday

May 5, 2007

Run To Remember

Today was the Run to Remember, sponsored by the Chicago Police Department. This defiately had the best goody bag and post race party around! I'll be back next year! There was even a beer stop instead of a water stop!

My time was better than the last 5K--38:31. Baby steps!

Thursday

May 3, 2007

Played 2 hours of Volleyball.

My body definately needed a rest, but I don't think I'm ready for this weekend.

Monday

April 30, 2007

Worked out with Hector for one hour today. Abs and Legs. I was still a little sore from Saturday. Streatching was definately my favorite part!

I hate the 5:00 time slot now that I don't have after school stuff. Hopefully, we can bump that up soon.

Saturday

April 28, 2007

Crazy Legs!

Today was the 8K--1:03:54!!

It totally would have been under an hour if I didn't have to wait for the guy in the port-a-potty. That seriously tacked on 5 minutes. I had to do some walkin' but I ran the entire first mile--hills, athsma, and all.

This is the farthest distance I've ever run!

Thursday

April 26, 2007

I'm such a big, fat, bloated. lazy turd. I haven't run all week. This 8K is going to kick my ass.

I decided that I had a choice this evening. I could go to the gym and run for an hour or I could go to the park and play volleyball for 2 hours.

I played volleyball for two hours. Saturday is gonna suck!

Saturday

April 21, 2007

Ran my first 5K ever!

I'm such a slow slug... 39:14. I didn't come in last...oh yeah 344 out of 397. How Barb acutally placed behind me witht he same time I'll never know. I guess that's just home city advantage!!

But it was a beautiful day--and next time, I'll do better!

Tuesday

April 17, 2007

I went to the gym--grudgingly.

1 hour on the eliptical. 600 Calories--3.24 miles.

Soooo not ready for Saturday.

Monday

April 16, 2007

I totally missed my session with Hector...then I didn't have my iPod to be focused to do cardio. And, to top it off, some chick was next to me on her cell phone blathering on about "white boy" and hooking up later--UGH!!

Any who, I did the 1/2 hour ab-blaster work out and gave up after the cell phone incident.

Friday

April 12, 2007

Today I didn't make it to the gym. Donyielle, Wynter and I went to this new nail place that just opened near our school and got manicures and pedicures (see other blog for details). I only made it home in time to make dinner, eat and change before I ran out the door to play volleyball.

So... today's workout:

Volleyball at the park for 2 hours

Wednesday

April 11, 2007

I had planned on doing an interval workout again today…but I was sore…so I decided that I needed to give my body a rest, and do long and slow to break up that lactic acid.

Workout:

Precor for an hour, with high resistance (starting at 12 moving up to 17 by the 30 minute mark) 5.1 miles—650 calories

April 10, 2007

Today I did something incredibly stupid. I signed up for 2 new events in the next 3 weeks. A the Wrigley Start Early 5K, proceeds going to help prevent child abuse, and at Barb’s suggestion the Crazy Legs 8K in Madison on the 28th. Fortunately, Barb’s a real runner and is going to run them both with me.

As a result, I’ve found my true motivation—FEAR.

It’s the fear of not finishing a race. I went to the gym immediately!! It was super late for me and insanely crowded. I’ve never had to wait for a treadmill before. I'm never going that late again!

Workout:

½ hour interval work out alternating 90 seconds of running at 6 mph and walking 90 seconds at 4 mph, with a 5 minute cool down.

300 calories burned.

Monday

April 9, 2007

Worked out with Hector for an hour today. We did core/abs and legs--my hams are super tight!

I have to make sure I make it to the gym tomorrow so that I'm not sore for the week. I hate when lactic acid kicks my ass!

On a nother note, I noticed that I'm more apt to get my butt to the gym when I have an event in the near future. I need to sign up for some 5Ks so that I'm more motivated to train! I'm sure there's a bunch if I do a search for the area. Hey, whatever get's me working out!

Here we go, On the go!

Thanks to Barb's suggestion, I'm going to start a running/exercise blog. Really, I'm not interested in having real people read it--but if this motivates you, then game on! I'm just going to log my workouts...and maybe it will motivate me to do more!

side note: I started this blog in April, but I back dated everything so I could docuument the whole year :)
