I ran a fast mile warm up--8:46 minute mile! I've never done that before! I don't think I could maintain that pace, but I'm sure that it was good for me to do at least one!! Now if only I could work my way up to an entire 5k at that pace, how awesome would that be?!?
After the mile, I did a full body work out with Hector for an hour. I finished with 4 easy, slow miles on the elliptical (50 minutes--told you it was slow!). I did a total of 5 miles today. I probably should have pushed the training run more. Tomorrow is another day, I'll try harder on that run. That will be on the treadmill instead of the elliptical for sure.
Two weeks from right now, I'll be in Florida...the night before the 5k and two nights before the 1/2 Marathon. I'm getting excited!!
Wednesday
December 26, 2007
I ran 5 miles. From my folks place, South on the island and across the Blue Heron Bridge (I walked the up sides in both directions) to US1 and back. I think it took an hour, or so--I hate when I forget to look at the clock!! It was a much better run than yesterday!
Tuesday
December 25, 2007
Went for a 6 mile run today. It was like running in early summer! I ran from my folks place up to McArthur State Park. I started to walk as I got to the park, just because the bridges were so pretty over the water. On the way back I walked a little more due to some major chaffage. I probably walked at most a mile of the total.
Tell me again why forgetting to pack Body Glide was a good idea?
Sunday
December 23, 2007
I did 12 miles on the elliptical. Thank God the Bears game was on, because watching the Bears wallup on Green Bay was entertainment enough to keep me occupied. I was on that machine for 3 quarters!!
GO BEARS!!

I really need to get back on schedule for training runs. I'm a little panicky today due to my lack of running this month. The 1/2 marathon isn't going to run itself. I'm seriously considering ditching my co-workers after work on Friday to work out for 2 hours. Fear (of not doing well or doing worse than the one in August) is a HUGE motivator.

If I had been on time I would have heard the announcements stating that the race had been changed. This was supposed to be an 8K, but due to hazzardous conditions, it was shortened to a 5K with manditory walk points. It was crazy slippey; I feel twice. I crossed the finish at 41: something--(Chip time 37:59--12:15 ppm) worst 5K time EVER!!

December 5, 2007
I even got to the gym late for my appointment with Hector. He knew something was up (let's face it, I'm never late to the gym). I spilled to him on a 5 minute warm up on the treadmill (1/2 mile). And then did more legs and core work. It's nice to know that there's someone there to kick my ass and make me work hard to make the day better.
Hector not only cheered me up, but also stretched me out. He's the biggest sweetie I know!
(If you're reading this, Hector--Love ya! You're the best!!)

- Blasted out 3 miles on the treadmill (430 calories)
- Hector stretched me for a good half hour...it's definitely the only reason I could be productive. If I was romantically interested in him, I'd totally ask him to marry me. (Is it unethical to want to marry someone so that they can stretch you out all the time? I suppose there's worse reasons people have gotten married).
- Up next, a half hour of core work.
- Finally 4 more slow miles...but on the elliptical (500 calories). I wasn't about to mess up my oh-so-excellent stretching!
That gives me a total of 7 miles and 930 calories, and a hopefully a little less soreness. We'll see tomorrow.

Not the things that make a champion. But long training runs have to happen. Since I wasn't feeling it...I'm tired; it's cold outside; my hips are tight and sore; I ran my 9 mile long run for the week on the elliptical at the gym. It was the longest I've ever done on a machine, one hour and 48 minutes which gives me perfect 12:00 mile splits and 1140 calories burned.
What's that? How am I feeling? Tired, and although the elliptical is supposed to be easier on your body/joints, my hips (especially the right one) are crazy sore and tight. I would be eternally grateful if anyone I knew would help me to stretch them out. That would be awesome beyond reason. It's practically orgasmic just thinking about it. (Yes, they're that sore.)
Training for the Disney 1/2 Marathon really did seem like a good idea in March...

November 22, 2007
On a cold and snowy Thanksgiving morning I rolled out of bed for my first 8K since Crazylegs in the spring. Thanks to my new Mizuno running pants (Breath Thermo ROCKS!!) I wasn't cold while running. I even had a new PR!! (I'm sure not having to wait for a porta potty during the race might have also helped). It was a great race, I loved the fact that there were runners with me the entire time. I know I'm slow, but it's nice to be part of a pack once in a while, even if you're in the back of that pack.
For the Lincoln Park Turkey Trot 8K, official time 55:53 with 11:15 splits.
Gobble, Gobble.

November 18, 2007
I had my new Mizuno running gloves which I was certain wasn't going to work. They're a new technology, called Breath Thermo. This fabric is supposed to warm up when it gets wet from training sweat. I was skeptical of the process, but after 3 miles I had to take them off they were so warm. I tucked them into my sweatshirt, and could even feel the warmth through the under shirt. I'd recommend them and I think I'm going to invest in a few more pieces for my winter training runs. With that kind of heat and the temps in Chicago, this girl is sold on the fact that it would be completely worth it!
To make the day even better, I had a 10K PR!! 1:08:57 which is an 11:06 mile split. Taking 2:35 off of the previous 10K PR of a few weeks ago! To add to my personal victory, this race had finisher medals!! Who knew? I've never run this short of a race that had medals! Yeah, hardware!
I love that I'm becoming a stronger more consistent runner. These PR's are showing me that these training runs do pay off. Sure I'm still slow, but I'm still excited when I've done better than I ever have before. Can't wait for the 8K on Thursday. I know that I'll have another PR...the last 8K I did was Crazylegs waaay back in the spring. My new goal for the 8K: under an hour. BRING IT ON!! (Can you tell I have the runner's high?)

I haven't been able to hold that pace unless I was super pissed off!! Sure, I really pushed myself to do it (it was super hard!), and I couldn't do it for more than two miles at a time, but it's still a MAJOR improvement. I think that I might actually hit my goal of a 30 minute 5K sometime next year!

November 12, 2007
I worked out with Hector this morning...arms and core, and I was dragging ass. I also headed to the Lakefront Trail and managed to get the 8 mile training run out of the way. It was so ugly--two hours for 8 miles, so not cool. I must have walked 2 or 3 miles of it. I'm thinking I should have made today a rest day.
U-G-L-Y I ain't got no alibi, that run was ugly...ugh, ugh, so ugly!!
The good news is that I got the long run for the week out of the way!

My iPod wasn't charged this morning so I let it charge for about 5 minutes before I headed out. It was funny, because when I hit the 4 mile mark , the battery power gave out...guess I'm done for the day!!
Wednesday
November 7, 2007
Then I went to the gym and did five miles. The first two on the treadmill, then the next to on the elliptical, then the final back on the treadmill. My arches were starting to hurt, so that was the reason for the switch. I figure I burned something like 5 or 6 hundred calories, and I ran the miles at about 11:30 splits.
Tuesday
November 6, 2007
I had settled on the 5 mile run, but was actually feeling pretty good. I hit the 5 mile mark on the elliptical at 58 minutes even. I was on the elliptical because I'm swollen today, again. Even my toes hurt. Anywho, I plowed through the last two miles just to get this weeks 7 miler out of the way and completed that in 25 minutes. Total mileage: 7 miles in 83 minutes (1 hour 23 minutes) at a 11.52 mile pace (not a bad pace for a 7 miler!) and 900 calories.
This pooling edema crap needs to get taken care of--I'm thinkin' a second opinion is in my very near future. I can't handle much more of this.
Monday
November 5, 2007
I also worked with Hector today. I did some great work...lots of legs and core. I have a feeling I'm gonna be sore tomorrow, but I don't even care...I rocked it today!
Friday
November 2, 2007
I felt the need to complete my long run of the week, but due to the soreness and not wanting to completely kill myself, I finshed out 4 slow miles (52:21) on the elliptical. Total machine calories was about 700 and total time was 1:13:21...not too shabby for a total 10k time. I'm certian the only thing that made it so, was that I powered through the first 2 miles, but whatever works!
Wednesday
October 31,2007
I ran 5 miles on the elliptical, due to some blisterage from my shoes. Burned off 615 calories in an hour.
Monday
October 29, 2007
I ran a 10 minute mile warm up and lifted arms with Hector. Then I ran the last four miles on the elliptical, for a total distance of 5 miles. Even though I had a good stretch, I'm still in knots. Bleach :P
Sunday
October 28, 2007
I had an 11:31 split for each mile and I felt so good through the run! It was a beautiful day and I blew my old pr out of the water by 5 minutes!! I was so pumped to do it!! I can NOT believe that I did it dressed as a pirate wearing an eye patch! I think that makes it a little more awesome! My time was 1:11:32—game on!!

I loved the course. I didn’t know where a lot of the Wright houses were and the course ran right past them. Well, I walked the second mile for the aforementioned reason, but I’m sure I could use the excuse that I was looking at the architecture!
I also ran in to some people I knew…Bill from grad school (who did run well) and Chris (who had a late night too—but due to work—did not run well either). It’s so nice to not only see your old friends, but also recognize people race to race!

Went to the gym pretty late today. It was irritating. Check out the other blog for the list of reasons why.
Ran 4 miles on the eliptical in 46:08 and burned 530 calories.

October 15, 2007
Saturday's race results were posted: I came in 10th for my age group!! Woo-Hoo!! I just made the top 10 (So there were only 12, but whatever, FIRST TIME IN THE TOP TEN!! 269th out of 339 and over all final time: 35:19.0 (but there was no chip start) 11:24/mile pace. Yet another moral victory!!
Saturday
October 13, 2007
Aside from the time and the first mile spilt, I also loved that I actually passed a bus! There was a bus and a car going idle speed down the race course on one street. I ran passed them! It definitely was a moral victory. I think the people in the bus must have felt that they were in Office Space.
I'm really diggin' the smaller road races because I seem to run much better. For such a small race (there were about 350 participants) I didn't feel that I was any more behind than normal, and the goody bag (complete with a long sleeved tech shirt) was pretty good!

Go Bears!!
(Hector's gonna kick my ass on Wednesday...)
Sunday
October 7, 2007
The first leg was run by Michelle, I ran the second followed by Nichole and Barb was our anchor. Aside from Michelle, who apparently loves the heat and humidity, we did't run very well. Our time was 4:16 with a 9:47 split. It really was brutally ugly to run. (The same day at the Chicago Marathon, they closed the course and someone even died.) I really wasn't feeling well, and it turned out nether was anyone else.
Then sadly, when we walked back to the car, we found this...
Someone actually broke into Michelles truck and stole Nicholes purse! How awful!! And the car was parked on a major street! UGH!! Some people just suck. And further more, the Milwaukee system for filing a report was awful. I was on hold with 911 for 20 minutes. What if that was a life threatening emergency?!?! And the guy on the phone was useless.
The concept of the relay is really cool, and I'm sure I'd do it again, but hopefully under better conditions.
Monday
October 1, 2007
35 minutes on the treadmill--3.2 miles. Then arms and core with Hector for an hour. It just flew by! I made up the last ten minutes of my training run rounding out the total mileage to 4 miles.
I just wish the pounds came off as easy as it was to do the work outs.
Sunday
September 30, 2007
It was a beautiful morining for a run! I finished in 37:13, with an 11:59 split. Not bad, but not good either. I need to learn to run faster, it seems my peek was in about July. I don't know what I did differently--I'm hoping it's only due to my recent weight gain, rather than me sucking.
I also sent in my form for a CARA participation award! I'm so proud that I qualify, who knew in my first year running?! I didn't have the 107k in CARA races (only CARA races count), but I did have a 1/2 Marathon (Chicago Distance Classic), a 10 miler (Downers Grove 5 & 10 Miler), 10k (Run for the Zoo), and 5k (Chicago Firefighter's Run for the Kids). I know I ran more than just CARA races, but it's still nice to know I did it!

This week I was so good about following the diet, and I didn’t loose—I gained. I completely snapped on Hector. I’m such an asshole. I feel awful, he didn’t deserve it. I was frustrated (too frustrated to even do cardio--I couldn't stop myself from crying) and took it out on him. I owe him a huge apology. I wouldn’t blame him if he gave up on me; after all, I think I’m starting to give up on myself.

September 27, 2007
It was much easier to "watch" Gray's Anatomy while on the machine...I definitely wasn't bored on it for an hour. Too bad my regular gym doesn't have the personal TVs on each machine. That would totally keep me on 'em longer!
Feeling fat. I'm certian Hector's nazi food schedule isn't doing what it's supposed to be doing...besides being rigid and annoying. I much prefer eating when I'm hungry rather than on a schedule. We'll see what happens when I weigh-in on the Saturday.
Tuesday

Wednesday
September 12, 2007

September 8, 2007
I did a major core work out today. I'd feel better if I wasn't retaining so much fluid. Trying to sweat it out isn't working and neither is the lasiks. I couldn't bare to run on the treadmill--I just didn't want to type in my new age! :)
Wednesday
September 5, 2007
I'm sore from yesterday, but I think it's due to my shoes giving out. I've had them for at least 3 months... I ordered new ones, but they're on back order, so I have no idea when I will recieve them.
I also lifted, doing arms and a little core work.
Tuesday
September 4, 2007
I went to the gym, and did a 35 minute run on the treadmill. It was a big deal for two reasons:
1. My fear of the treadmill. Since that one time I went to the gym with Tom and he neglected to show me the emergency stop and I shot off the back.
2. I haven't run on the thing since (about 5 or 6 years now).
So I did the 35 minute run, at a negitive integer. This means my first mile was done with the treadmill set at 5.2 an 11:28 pace, the second at 5.3 at an 11:16 pace, and the last at 5.4 at an 11:06 pace. It was WAY harder than I thought it would be, but I felt pretty good and burned 472 calories and ran 3.1 miles.
Saturday
September 1, 2007
I'm so sick of how awful my body feels. I know I haven't been eating the best ever, but I definately haven't been terrible enough to add ten pounds in a week. I really want my body to get regulated. Part of me fears that I'm just a fat ass--but I run on average 20-25 miles a week, plus strength training 2-3 times a week, so I can't figure out how that's possible. I just need to keep telling myself--one step at a time.

Still feeling like a bloated fat cow...but at least my workout felt good.
Tuesday
August 28, 2007
It's amazing I'm starting to dig these longer runs. I wish I was a little faster, but then I wonder if I'd enjoy them so much. It's so wonderful to take in everything and just enjoy movement. Looking at the water, and the sail boats...even the butterflies flitting around the path. Even with all the crap that's been going on (doctors, bad test results, bad news...ect.) this run definitely reminded me that I'm surrounded by beauty and truly blessed.
Monday
August 27, 2007
I know eating crap isn't going to solve anything, but the buttercreme frosting on a 1/2 dozen cupcakes, a mini frozen pizza and some milk sure took my mind off things for a while. Maybe there will be some better news at the appointment tomorrow.

I did go to the go to the gym this morning. It's nice to be there early when there's on one there. I worked my arms...bench, incline bench, row (machine and free), flys, bi's, tri's, and some core work too. I just really wanted to work out, but still stay off my foot. I hope it starts to feel better soon, sitting on my butt is driving me nuts!

August 13, 2007
On another note, there was a comment on my other blog for the ½ Marathon yesterday. Apparently this person used her GPS and the course was actually 13.95 miles (several other GPS users corroborated)…more than ¾ of a mile longer than it should have been. That makes me feel tons better about my time, because it means that I probably did run 13.1 miles in under 2:45. Hooray for setting a goal and achieving it!!! (still doing the happy dance!!)
Sunday
August 12, 2007
This morning was the Chicago Distance Classic and while there’s a strong possibility it’s due to a runner’s high, I never thought I’d run 13.1 miles and have this big of a smile on my face!! (Still doing the happy dance)
It wasn’t all smooth sailing; I did hit a few speed bumps. The first slight problem was around mile six…my iPod ran out of juice. After I quit swearing, I started singing to myself in my head. (Did you know “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and the “Alphabet Song” have the same tune? My profound discovery around mile 7). The second came between miles nine and ten...my lungs decided that they had had enough. If I didn’t slow down to walk they were going to revolt with an asthma attack. While my legs wanted to keep going, I decided that a nice little walk break was in order. The last problem didn’t present itself until much later in the day…the sun wasn’t up at 4:30 when I woke up, but sunblock would have been a really smart choice (not that my sports bra burn line isn’t sexy). Two out of three of those bumps are fixable… Memo to me: 1) Charge iPod, 2) Slather on the SPF.
I finished the race in 2:50:59. I really did want it to be under 2:45…but my lungs didn’t agree. All well, there’s always next time!! On yet another side tangent, I realized today that I’ve run 101K in races this year. That’s 62.62 miles! I haven’t decided if I want to add up all my training runs with that too…
It was a great race! Thank you to everyone who sent their advice and well wishes for this race…as well as telling me that I’d do all right (Chris) and not die (Barb) or even that I’m crazy (Mom). I’m a little sad I have to wait until January before I run one again. But until then I have a big honkin’ penguin medal, a little bit of bragging rights, and an excuse to keep doing the happy dance!
Monday
August 6, 2007
People who recognize me at the gym are even noticing that I'm stressed out. They keep asking if I'm ok. It's really the fact that I've never run this far before--the whole unknown thing. I've done ten, so I need to tell myself at that point in the race, just one 5K to go.
I worked on my legs, butt and hips with a little core (can you tell I'm paranoid?) and then ran 3 miles. Probably should have done 4, but the arch of my foot was starting to hurt, so I cut it short and came home after an hour an a half.

Ran five miles today (about 600 calories--I love using the on-line estimates to calculate this!) and I worked/lifted my arms until they felt like jello (I'm certian that's an athletic technical term).
I'm actually liking this whole running thing. Sure, at this point 13.1 miles scares the crap out of me, but once I get through it, I'm sure like the 10 miler, I'll be fine. (If only I could get that to sink through the panic mode that's going on in my head!) I also realized that since I signed up for the 1/2 marathon, I've lost more than 10 lbs. Not part of the plan, but not going to complain either. Who knows what will happen by Disney?

July 30, 2007
Headed to the gym today, I decided to take it easy on my joints and do 5 miles on the eliptical. I did it at a 10:15/mile pace (600 calories) with the resistance set at 6. I also worked with Hector...mostly legs with a little core and arms. I was my hips were sore by the end of the workout. I think I need a nice slow and easy run tomorrow so that I'm not super sore.
Sunday
July 29, 2007
I finished 1:17:07 with a 12:25 split. Sure better than the last time! My lungs did feel really tight this morning. I think it was due to the humidity. Aside from that I really felt like I had a good stride going after mile 4.
I even ran in to Krista from Augie! It was a super speedy reunion! She also ran the 10K. We caught up on the little things and I headed home. Such a lovely morning!
I can't believe that the Chicago Distance Classic is exactly two weeks away. Is it to early to start panicing?
Saturday
July 28, 2007
I did an easy .8 (100 calories) on the eliptical to warm up and did a combo of streaching and core for the next hour. I do feel better. I'm hopeing that did the trick!
Thursday
July 26, 2007
I warmed up on the eliptical for .8 of a mile and 100 calories.
Hector and I did core and arms. I really need to get myself streached out before this race on Sunday!

July 23, 2007
Today was amazing!! I got up at 4:30 to go to work with Barb. It was still dark, but the view of Salt Lake City from the University Hospitol is so pretty! Barb recomended that if I wanted to see the city on my run, that I take foothill to 500S (ugh--500!) and on back to her place.
As I started my run the sun hadn't come up and it was quite dark. I was running behind the hospitol and as I neared the heli-pad I noticed a trail leading farther into the foothills. For some reason I took the detour. Climbing 3/4 of a mile straight up was a challenge, but let's face it, it was much to steep to run. I made it to the summit of one of the foothills. It was so peaceful...as dawn broke I could hear the birds begin to chirp and I saw a glorious sunrise over the mountians. It was so amazing!! The colors seemed to light the sky on fireI wish I was a better writer so that I could describe it!
I headed back down the hill, and now that I could see the path, I wondered how the hell I had gotten up the hill! This was one steep path!! I did make it down safely, with only some dirt and rocks in my shoes. I took my run throught the campus and got a bit turned around. After I stopped and picked up a map I finally found my way to 500S. I crossed to the south side of the street because I wasn't interested in running down the S-curve that I did yesterday. As I was running passed a cemetary, I noticed movement. There, beneth an evergreen tree, not 25 feet away was an eight point buck watching me run passed. I skidded to a stop and hung on the fence a few minutes just staring. I've never seen a deer that close before!! He just seemed so content!
As I got closer to Barb's, I encountered more early morning wildlife. A small flock of either quail or partridges (I'm not a bird expert) came running up some stairs as I ran down them...they were so cute! I also saw an enourmous snail on the sidewalk. He was the side of my thumb! I was worried for the little guy...didn't he know that this was SALT Lake?
This run totally made up for the mess that was yesterday! I'm so blessed to have had these moments in my run! Those 4 miles (except for the one up the mountian) really flew by!
July 22, 2007
I have to say elevation and "foothills" suck my will to live. This was the ugliest run I've ever done. I had the brilliant (and by brilliant I mean, "WTF was I thinking!!") idea to run east up 500S in Salt Lake City. This Chicago native knows nothing of the hills of the Rocky Mountians. Seriously, there were parts of this path that had stairs because the sidewalks were too steep! I'm sure the desert climate and elevation had nothing to do with my misery either...
Things I learned:
1. Running up hill sucks ass.
2. Running downhill isn't much of a picnic either after doing the up hill climb.
3. Body Glide does NOT make you "glide" up hills easier.
4. Even after 2.5 miles up hill I am highly motivated to run to sprinklers and away from Mormons trying to convert me.
5. Salt Lake City does not have drinking fountians.
6. Even during this run, I still have the ability to come up with some truely creative strings of swear words.
7. My inhailer is my favorite running buddy.
I survived my first run at elevation, all 5 miles of it. It took more than an hour to do this run. (1:21:23--does elevation count as hitting the wall?) I think tomorrow I will get up with Barb and ride to work with her so that my run is mostly downhill with out the death inspiring up hill.

After turning the 5K into a steeple chase, it was a fairly nice run. The first half was into the wind, but not horrible. I ran a perfect 35:00. Not a PR, but I don't think I could get an even 35 minutes again if I tried! There was beer and guac at the finish line (I think all runs should finish with beer and guacamole!), so I hung out until I got too chilly.
Good race! Time to pack for Utah...
Tuesday
July 17, 2007
Then I did 4 miles on the eliptical with the resistance set at 15 and the incline at 6. I got 500 calories out of that and finished in 50 minutes.
I picked up my race packet for the 5K on Thursday. It was quite annoying that the only size for the shirts that were left was a 2XL. It's enormous, I could have a party in this shirt! They said I could try to exchange it on Thursday, they may have more shirts then.
The good news is that with my Fleet Feet rewards, I got The Stick. What is The Stick? It's a wonderful devise that rolls out muscle kinks and aches. I love The Stick! And now I have one of my very own!

Hector couldn't make it today, so I headed to the gym for 4 miles on the eliptical (hoping to take some pressure off the blistered foot). I started with 20 minutes on the stair machine. That was a total of 100 floors and 250 calories. Then I did the 4 miles on the elipical. It was a 12 minute pace with the resistance set at 15 and I burned 500 calories.
On a side note, I looked back at the 2/16/07 post (exactly 5 months to the day) and realized on that day I climbed 80 floors in 20 minutes. Look at me goin' with my bad self!! If I can get in to do the Hustle next year I know I'll beat my goal of under 30 minutes!!
Friday
July 12, 2007
I was a bit worried about this race...first I haven't trained well, and I still have blisters. Secondly, I forgot my iPod and inhailer, and had to go back for them and felt rushed getting down there. Finally, at the start I bumped in to one of the Best Men from Kim's Wedding. It was nice to see him and all, we had the small talk chit-chat, but then he said "I didn't see you at A's BBQ." That's because I wasn't invited. It was not only hard to say that, but I know it's been a year since I've seen or spoken with Kim. It's so hard because I wish I knew what I did that was so awful for her not to speak to me. Even if it was un-fixable, I just want her to know that I would never do anything to hurt her or her family. But I can't appologize for something I didn't know that I did. I guess on the off chance she reads this, I hope that she calls. I do miss her. Anywho, the point being, that shook me up.
Suprisingly, I really did have an AWESOME race!! I blew my old PR out of the water by almost 6 minutes! I guess with everthing I just took off and found my zone. I finished in 31:55, that's a 10:18 split! I was so excited with my time. I just hope that with the rest of my races I can keep up that pace.

July 10, 2007
I worked out with Hector for an hour today. It was total body lifting--arms, legs and core.
I then decided to try to run on the eliptical machine. It's not the same as running on the road, but it was worth a try concidering the worst of my blister/crack hasn't healed yet. I used special blister band-aids--which actually seemed to work. They don't stay on as well as the package says but they're better than nothing.
I did 7 miles on the eliptical. It was the most boring run ever! Those last two miles were killing me...I just can't stay on one machine for more than an hour. I was so bored, but I have to admit it's better than doing nothing.
I have a race on Thursday. I don't feel prepared because of my blister-induced inactivity. It's only a 5K...I'm hoping everything will work out!
Stupid Blisters.
Friday
July 6, 2007
I tried to run today. I made it 2 miles out and I just couldn't get a stride. My gait was all weird, I wasn't running on my left heal at all. It wasn't good. I made it home, but I only ran 4 miles. I probably shouldn't have because it really agravated the blisters more. They need to heal!! I have the CDC in just over a month!!
Monday
July 2, 2007
And he did. It was a leg work out. I haven't been this sore in a while! Lots of lunges and some weight work. Soreness is setting in!
Tuesday
June 26, 2007
Today--5 miles in a little over an hour.
Monday
June 25, 2007
I did a half mile warm up--65 calories and streached.
Then it was mostly arms and some core work. I shouldn't leave him alone for an extended period of time, because he comes up with some new way to make me sore! I'm not complaining--it's good for me! He also streached my legs because I was sore and tight from the 10 miler yesterday.
UPDATE--
I know I posted that the race was 2:05 ish for 10 miles... Well, I checked the race results and the results were actually 1:59:06.2---That's an 11:55/mile pace!! I knew I rocked that course!! WOO-HOO!!
Sunday
June 24, 2007
Of course I was slower than most, but I didn’t get lapped until Mile 4…not bad! I finished the race in 2:05: ish (will update when times are posted). That’s a 12:30 mile pace. I was just happy to finish! But when I saw the finish clock, I was so happy with my time! This is the farthest distance I’ve ever run!
It was a course with some rolling hills. Some of them I needed to walk up (along with the water stops), but for the most part, I ran the majority of the race.
This race really makes me feel better about the half marathon. I just need to keep up with my training and I’m feeling pretty confidant I won’t embarrass myself!
And now, I’m so ready for next year’s Soldier Field 10 Mile! I want to do it because it finishes on the 50 yard line of my beloved Bears Stadium…I guarantee you, after I cross that finish line I’ll be making grass angels on the field! :)
Thanks, Barb for the countless pep-talks and awesome Running Mix!! I couldn’t have done it with out you! And thanks to Mom and Jack for waiting at the finish line to cheer me on…it got a little lonely out there!!

June 21, 2007
This race really seemed to kick start me back in to training for the 1/2 marathon. I went to the start line feeling good and ready to run! I hit the first mile marker at 11:20...and I felt AWESOME. Sure, compared to the elete, that blows, but I can see and feel the improvement running the 5K distance. The second mile was about 24:00 and when I got to the finish I was so crushed when I saw the time was registered 43:00!! How is it possible?!?! Sure, I had to walk for a little bit, but seriously? Almost 20 mintues for a mile? What the hell?!?! I could have walked it backwards faster. Any who...I got my free beer and listened to the Polkaholics, and got an autograph on my bib from a 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist.
Now, that the race results have been posted I'm a little sad to see that my results are listed under the name of Rachel Sierminski. I know this to be the case because she has two entrys and I have none, and one of the entrys is under my bib nimber. Not that it's her fault in anyway, shape or form...it just sucks, because I have a PR!! Yeah! The clock must have been running from the mens time, because my time was 37:10!! That's an 11:58 mile! I finially broke 12 minutes!
This has been a total confidace boost because I have a 10 mile race on Saturday. I decided to use it as a training run for the halfie...I've been paranoid all week that they were going to close the course on me for being slow! Now, I'm feeling better about doing it (but still a little scared they'll be picking up cones behind me :)) I'm hoping for under 2.5 hours...

June 18, 2007
This week I have two races, Thursday's 5K and today I registered for a 10 mile run. It fits into the training plan. I'm just worried about the wall. I guess I have to keep telling myself, penguins always finish!
June 17, 2007
Yesterday, I signed up for the Jim Gibbons run on Thursday. I know I'll be ok for that, it's the Distance Classic I'm worried about. I need to find more races to use as training runs to keep myself motivated!

Tuesday
June 5, 2007
I went and hit an easy day on the Precor. I ran 5.25 miles in an hour (plus the machines 5 minute cool down) with the resistance set at 10 and burning 650 calories.
I found a training plan for the 1/2 marathon. I'm not sure if I like it...but I'll keep up with it until I find something I like better! I also found out that Sarah registered for the same race!! I think that this time, she's going to be waiting for me at the finish line!
Monday
June 4, 2007
Hector kicked my ass today. Just when I thought he couldn't come up with more evil things to make me do; he busts out not only the leg weights but also having me hold my legs a few inches off the ground while I did a chest press. It was crazy hard!! He gave me alot of core work today and a combo of legs and arms. I'm getting better balence on the ball, and my side planks are awesome!!
On another note, I did something else stupid...I registered for the Chicago Distance Classic. The prize? A "big honkin' penguin medle" (their discription, not mine). Yeah, it's a half marathon. 13.2 miles is more than double what I did yesterday. What the hell was I thinking?!?! See? No reason to panic for Disney, I have something else to worry about!
Training plans...need to find a training plan....

June 2, 2007
It's a little humid today, but it was nice to get out and run. I didn't do anything crazy, I've got that 10K tomorrow. Although as I was running up Austin, there was a dead cat on the side walk... It was very sad. He looked like he was sleeping on his back (Seamus does that sometimes). I guess, it's nicer to think of that...it's just more peaceful that way.
On another note, I found a great website where you can map out your routes by miles or kilometers. It's definately fun to play with and I can find milage for my runs. Now I don't have to be on the precor or treadmill to know how far I've gone!
Thursday
May 31, 2007
Hector worked my mostly arms and core today. He really made me sweat--I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow, but that's a good thing!! He attached 2 pound weights to my legs. Sightly evil, but I could do it--'cuz, I'm tough like that!!
Volleyball was cancled... :( I think I'm going through withdrawl!
Monday
May 28, 2007
Worked out with Hector for an hour. Mostly core work with some arms.
I'm still feeling eh. I'm glad I went, but I could tell I wasn't 100%. I think there's a nap in my future. I hope I start feeling better so I can get through that 10k on Sunday!
May 27, 2007
Barb and Sarah, ran the marathon...I ran the 6K. It was actually 6.2 miles, but with my confusion of running with the 10k people for a short distance, my run was a little longer. I figure, my run may have been a little over 4 miles. I felt pretty good, even still being sick.
Here's myself, Sarah and Barb after the races:
It was a beautiful day for a run...hopefully next weekend's 10K will be just as good!
Tuesday
May 22, 2007
I was going to do it for longer, but I noticed that both stair machines were open--those things are always taken with line for each one!! I hopped on for 12:30 and climbed 61 floors and 152 calories.
Then I worked out with Hector for an hour. Core work out and arms. I hope I'm ready for the 6.2K I'm running this weekend...or even more daunting the 10K the weekend after that!!
On another note, I registered for the Disney Half-Marathon. I'm wondering how Barb talked me into this one!! 13.2 miles seems crazy long right now for my unconditioned self. What's my motivation? 2 things: 1) Knowing Barb will be running it with me every step of the way (she's the best cheerleader ever!!) and 2) There's a Donald Duck shaped finishers medal. There's no use in panicing now...I'll wait until December for that!
Thursday
May 17, 2007
Volleyball for 2 hours at the park. I spent that time trying to learn to serve over-hand. I completely suck! It was like a high school P.E. nightmare. Fortunately, everyone was really supportive about helping me learn. I did manage to get a few over (without much consistancy). At least I tried--HOO-WHA!
Tuesday
May 15, 2007
500 Calories--4 miles
I need to get more cardio in, but there's only 2 stair machines--What's up with that?!?!

May 10, 2007
I was on fire today! I had some great spikes. I did almost tear my fingernail off...the ball hit the tip of my finger and sepreated the nail from the bed. Nasty blood everywhere. But, I got a bandage and kept playing...GAME ON!
Monday
May 7, 2007
Legs and Abs.
I need to get motivated and get more cardio in through out the week.
Sunday
May 6, 2007
This was a cute little suburban race. I didn't like the fact that it wasn't chipped. It's not motivating. The time was super slow (41:48). I wasn't really motivated. No more running with Jay. This one did have a good goody bag, but not as good as CPD!
Saturday
May 5, 2007
Today was the Run to Remember, sponsored by the Chicago Police Department. This defiately had the best goody bag and post race party around! I'll be back next year! There was even a beer stop instead of a water stop!
My time was better than the last 5K--38:31. Baby steps!
Thursday
May 3, 2007
My body definately needed a rest, but I don't think I'm ready for this weekend.
Monday
April 30, 2007
I hate the 5:00 time slot now that I don't have after school stuff. Hopefully, we can bump that up soon.
Saturday
April 28, 2007
Today was the 8K--1:03:54!!
It totally would have been under an hour if I didn't have to wait for the guy in the port-a-potty. That seriously tacked on 5 minutes. I had to do some walkin' but I ran the entire first mile--hills, athsma, and all.
This is the farthest distance I've ever run!
Thursday
April 26, 2007
I decided that I had a choice this evening. I could go to the gym and run for an hour or I could go to the park and play volleyball for 2 hours.
I played volleyball for two hours. Saturday is gonna suck!
Saturday
April 21, 2007
I'm such a slow slug... 39:14. I didn't come in last...oh yeah 344 out of 397. How Barb acutally placed behind me witht he same time I'll never know. I guess that's just home city advantage!!
But it was a beautiful day--and next time, I'll do better!
Tuesday
April 17, 2007
1 hour on the eliptical. 600 Calories--3.24 miles.
Soooo not ready for Saturday.

Volleyball at the park for 2 hours
Wednesday
April 11, 2007
Workout:
Precor for an hour, with high resistance (starting at 12 moving up to 17 by the 30 minute mark) 5.1 miles—650 calories
April 10, 2007
As a result, I’ve found my true motivation—FEAR.
It’s the fear of not finishing a race. I went to the gym immediately!! It was super late for me and insanely crowded. I’ve never had to wait for a treadmill before. I'm never going that late again!
Workout:
½ hour interval work out alternating 90 seconds of running at 6 mph and walking 90 seconds at 4 mph, with a 5 minute cool down.
300 calories burned.
Monday
April 9, 2007
I have to make sure I make it to the gym tomorrow so that I'm not sore for the week. I hate when lactic acid kicks my ass!
On a nother note, I noticed that I'm more apt to get my butt to the gym when I have an event in the near future. I need to sign up for some 5Ks so that I'm more motivated to train! I'm sure there's a bunch if I do a search for the area. Hey, whatever get's me working out!
